Great Brother Inkjet Printer! I really like this Brother printer. It does all I need printing scanning, & making copies. No problem using card stock like I've struggled with other brands. Ink is VERY economical as get 1200 pages per cartridge. No problem with leaking or drying up as I only replace about once a year.
So far, so good! I love that it holds a lot of paper. The touch screen is not as responsive as I would like. I feel like I have to pound on it to get it done. And it's not the quietest machine in the world, but overall, I'm impressed. Now if it lasts more than 18-24 months, I'll be dancing in the streets.
Problematic ink system I bought this printer in April of 2019 to print the occasional color document. It worked mostly OK for about a year, but since this April (2020) the Black printhead has clogged five times. I'm guessing it's because it doesn't get used much--most of my printing is done on a Brother B&W laser printer (which Just Works). I've even taken to running a weekly test print through the '985 just to keep the black ink system from clogging, but apparently that's not often enough. Brilliant printer. Must be one of the cheapest inkjets to run This is a real winner. I’ve had it 3 years and only replaced the ink once. I have 2 kids that are homeschooled, so it gets a fair amount of use. The wireless printing capability is so convenient, and scanning to google drive, Dropbox etc just makes life much easier!
Cheap and Easy printing! great on ink and easy to use. Haven’t used it for photos yet.
Great Value! Very happy with this printer. It's compact not taking so much desk space. It's also very ink efficient, since I bought it haven't had the need to replace any cartridges yet. Set up is easy. It may not be the fastest printer in the West but it does the job!
Buy it. Worth every cent We bought this printer August 20, 2017. Since then we have printed thousands of papers. My husband is writing a book and has used this printer consistently since we purchased it. We’ve never encountered any connection issues, we’ve never had any technical issues, and have maybe changed out the ink like two or three times. This baby is a workhorse and has been worth every cent. These are two little booklets I just printed out March 18, 2020. Highly dependable and costs to print are ridiculously low!
Good overall but will not print on card stock The MFC-J985dw duplex prints on regular paper just fine, with good print quality. It scans on only one side via the ADF, but that has worked pretty well for me too. However, it will not print on Avery heavy business card stock (8871); it does not pull the paper in straight, and does not advance it at the right pace, the business cards become progressively mis-alligned the further down the page they go.
