This was our fifth evening dinner visit, or so, to Red Eye, in as many years--this time bringing guests from out of town. We have no complaints, and in fact we had the best food this time of any visit. My assessment remains consistent: a cheery place, good food and good service, somewhat overpriced. The convenience of the location draws me back occasionally, though I usually choose someplace else when I can make a strict quality-per-dollar decision.
As usual, everything was first class. Top of our list when we go into the City.
Good American bistro food and decor. We sat in the bar and were waited on by the bartender (Caroline, I believe) and she was terrific. Very knowledgeable and recommended a couple of great dishes for us. The Hemingway daiquiri was a perfect ending to a day in NYC. Great wine list and creative menu items. Had the dancing shrimp and a couple of sushi items, both were delicious and creatively served.
great restaurant and great experience
The Restaurant Week menu was disappointing. Other participating restaurants took the opportunity to showcase menu items that were really special. Redeye Grill offered saffron rice and chicken chow mein as lunch entrees. I would have preferred a sushi lunch special or at a minimum, more seafood. The tuna burger that was offered was "sold out" -- my lunch reservation was for 1 pm.
Just went to Redeye Grill for the first time - and it was great! I had found it in a NY guidebook and was so glad we tried it. Menu was varied, and food and service very good. We were there early for dinner so it wasn't busy yet. It's a nice street corner location so good for people watching too by the windows. Also a good midtown location and right near Carnegie Hall. I strongly recommend it!
all 4 of us were completely satisfied. It was a great ending to a great day.
I was expecting much more from Red Eye seeing the previous reviews. Good food indeed, but not the perfect ambiance. The service suffered quite a bit even the staff was trying their best to compensate a visible understaffing issue. In short, a good place, recommended, but definitely not the best place in NYC where you can have dinner.
Nice restaurant conveniently located
