I have been visiting the Expanding Light going on 3 years now. The grounds are incredibly beautiful through all seasons, I appreciate the fresh mountain air everyday that I get to be here. The space is so sacred that deer will gently graze the grounds and if you are calm enough, they will come visit you. Turkeys and geese also frequent the area and it’s inspiring to hear the red tail hawks soar about with their calls. The programs and festivals are incredible! Just returned from a wonderful weekend of Yoga Therapy at The Expanding Light. If you get the chance, track down Sam McMillen for a Yoga Therapy session. He rocks! I attended Yoga Teacher Training at the EL in 1998 and return every year for personal retreat and bring my friends. This visit included not only delicious food, comfy accommodations, excellent instruction, lots of peace and quiet and a marvelous snow storm to turn the grounds into a magical fairy land. Ahhhh...
The grounds are lovely. The staff is warm. The programs are fantastic. The food is a little bland, although I am a complete fan of the vegetarian cuisine. It was just a little too one note. I felt the guest intake could have improved. I would have appreciated a guided tour of the property and more locations made available for water and refreshments. I’m looking forward to returning soon!
If you want to find out what heaven would be like, go to The Expanding Light Retreat. No words would do it justice, you have to experience it. I have gone at least 20 times and each time it got harder to leave. Please, for your own peace of mind, go there. I have to ask those who gave less than 5 stars...Why?
I had a fantastic time at the Expanding Light Retreat! I could not have picked a better place for a spiritual retreat. Everybody I encountered was very friendly. There was no agenda being pushed...other than to help me find the joy in my spiritual practice! Great group of people, phenomenal facilities, and truly spiritual areas for meditation. I will definitely be back!
