The size of the unit is good for them. Of course they would like larger because they are you still living in a house their entire lives so that's understandable. Mom loves the activities she really enjoys bingo. Sometimes they have an art class. I don't recall specifically what like a painting or something what she's enjoyed. They also have horse racing. The food is not very good and I feel like they're aren't a huge amount of activities. Otherwise, my father is happy with cleanliness and the facility in general.
Winward Palms, I guess is probably pretty much standard like other independent living facilities. I guess the biggest complaint is that it's not really independent living. There is a lot of people and I would say close to half of the people that are there are not independent living, they are assisted living there in wheelchairs. They are in walkers they need Assistance stressing they need assistance for everything they do during the day so can't even walk. My mom is staying at this facility and is happy there. She enjoys the food, activities and the other residents. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they are attentive to her needs. We’re happy with the choice we made.
Clean facility. Very open and easy to get around. Staff and residents are friendly.
Their food is sometimes suspect, but with the meals being improved I would recommend this community to other families.
Some will greet you, depending on who is in front, others won't. My Dad enjoys the food very much and looks forward to it, even though he says the chocolate cakes they serve are so tempting but he tries not to eat them too often. He's always watching his waistline. My father has one of the bigger rooms so it's great! He likes all the amenities, the only thing he wishes is that the pool would be heated.
Not everything is perfect. But most residents will say they are happy to be here. Everyone is pleasant. There are numerous activities every day. Bus transportation to and from grocery stores, medical appointments and outings are provided. Three meals a day are provided. I like the camaraderie and the events they have but what I don't like and you see happens at dinner is the table tops are only four people and if there was a way of Windward Palms putting together the tables so we could sit eight instead of four there would be a lot less screaming to talk to each other at dinner. usually by dinner time the guys have had one too many and they're very vocal and loud with their friends usually sitting for a five tables down from me. The most part for now is it's safe.
