8X8 support for Polycom phones SUCKS! -- A very large and respected animal hospital was having issues with their phone system and switched to 8x8 and VoIP systems. I watched as the administrator was struggling with the system and they brought in a local IT company to address the issues. My small business, which now has about 20 phones, has been a 8x8 user for about 7 years and until recently the issues have been manageable. Recently we encountered severe compatibility problems with 8x8 phones and Comcast highspeed internet access. 8x8 is not compatible with the standard gateway cable modem typical installed by Comcast. 8x8 solution to this problem is to request Comcast to install a single port stand alone cable modem and then configure a stand alone router to sit behind the cable modem. Bar far, 8x8 is the absolute worse VOIP soft phone virtual desktop system I have ever used. There system has gone down leaving me helpless with my customers. Basic level support is very limited. Upper level support never ever gets back to you even after multiple ticket requests. Again, I have never had worse service with any other company in working with my business. Never again. I just add a couple more lines and am paying considerably less than would be with traditional carriers. The app is great, although quality is effected by the coverage and cell service. Remember that when getting into an VOIP phone system, the limitations are greatly effected by your internet service provider, bandwidth and network traffic, don't blame the taxi driver for the traffic. Our company joined 8x8 near the end of 2008. We'd been on an in-house system, and it was getting pretty old. At the time, we had around 25 employees, and maintaining and managing the phone system was just another task that our IT department of one had to handle.
