much to love about this scanner, but Brother drops the ball Much improved performance, raising from 1 to 4 stars. Installation was not easy. Part of the trouble is that its WIFI set up required me disable my Mac's WIFI connection. This was not a problem, other than it required tech support to tell me it was necessary. Online service is extremely poor This would be a great scanner if you don't care about the cloud connected scanning feature. Found the Evernote scansnap edition to be significantly better.
We finally live paper-free!!! We've talked about getting rid of the paper in our lives for years but there's never been a convenient way to get rid of it. We tried a flat-bed scanner, but it's slow and since it didn't connect wirelessly, the convenience factor wasn't there. The stack of paper in the scanning queue would grow until one of us would get tired of it and scan it and the whole process would start over. Then we tried to use our smart phones. LOL!! What a joke! Setup is bad. Works great afterwards. Once you fight your way through the setup - which is especially bad for a no-Java allowed household and poorly documented - it works great. Use the web interface to setup emails and shortcuts. Do not bother with scanning jobs going through their servers. Bad idea from privacy perspective and unnecessary complication with little benefit. Once email is set up (Gmail in our case), it is great and we never needed anything else.
Gets the job done, with a lot of hand-holding *updated* 12/03/2013 update: I'm updating this review after an hour and a half of failing to scan anything at all.
