Fantastic. Life changing. Dr. McLawhorn replaced my left hip and I walked out of the hospital that afternoon with a walker. Two days later I was walking with a cane. Friends, family and my GP cant believe the outcome. I had no pain after 36 hours and all my back pain caused by the bad hip was gone the day after the surgery. Its been two months now since my surgery and I am walking and hiking 5-6 miles with our 3 boys.
I just had my one year follow up for my left hip replacement surgery. My recovery was fast and quite painless for me. At the end of my second week after surgery, I walked one mile with only a cane outdoors. By myself, no one with me. I felt so accomplished! And thrilled that it was all behind me. I had first total hip replacement recently.
I have had 2 total hip replacements at HSS. My second surgery was with Dr. McLawhorn at the Stamford CT location. Both surgeries went really well and I am very happy with my outcomes. I have recommended these 2 doctors and HSS to many friends and family. I am so happy to have my full mobility back and to be able to participate in all the activities that I love.
Every interaction that I had with Dr. McLawhorn - including my hip surgery - were knowledgeable, professional and very timely. I was extremely pleased with my recovery from surgery - which was contributed to the detailed post-surgery outline that was provided to me.
I highly recommend Dr. McLawhorn and his staff, as well as Stamford Hospital. He listened to my concerns and I knew that I was in good hands. The surgery went well and I am now on the road to recovery. You will not have a better experience any place else.
Outstanding care with lots of information, compassion , coordination and follow up
Excellent , had both knees replaced after ignoring the deterioration and pain because I needed to work. Wasn’t sure he would accept me as a patient because of how much damage I had done to my knees of my ignoring them. Pleasantly surprised when he accepted my case and explained what he needed to do and questioned me about what I thought my best outcome would be. He pulled no punches about what he hoped for the outcome and we agreed upon a plan. Do yourself a favor if you need knee replacement and go see him.
Dr. McLawhorn did an excellent job on both of my hip replacements. I did the first one about 5.5 months ago at HSS in NYC and the second one 6 weeks ago at HSS Stamford. Both experiences were slightly different but terrific overall. He is confident, professional, caring and answered all of my questions (and there were many) with thoughtful, specific answers. His staff has been responsive when I called with questions. Hospital staff in both places were professional, helpful, and caring. Good follow up. Recommend highly!
