On Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, I took my dog to an emergency clinic, where the vet explained that she needed urgent care due to a likely intestinal blockage. The cost of the tests alone was outrageous and the subsequent surgery was out of the question. Looking for a more reasonable rate, I contacted Caring Pet Hospital when I returned home. I will never take my dog here again. I am new to the area and brought my dog in for a general check up. The first thing I noticed was the torn up blinds on the front windows (not very professional), but thought that could be overlooked if the rest of the clinic was in good shape, but it's not! When I walked in the whole place smelled of bleach (which I have heard is toxic to cats), and there was no one at the front desk.. Yes he was always available but his diagnosis of kitty was WRONG... kitty almost died... wasn't eating only getting fluids... thank god we left and went to Redwood Animal in Castro Valley who CORRECTLY diagnosed kitty w/ stomatitis. We went to specialist in Berkeley who removed all kitties teeth. Dr. Mangat was sooooo wrong said Bartonella was cause of kittys probelms. NOw learned MANY kiittys have Bartonella.... I took one of my doxies here because she was really sick. Bad idea, the office is in pretty bad shape in my opinion. They need to get with the technology and upgrade some of their equipment. The whole time during the exam, I felt the doctor wasn't being sympathetic, I was in tears, he basically told me my poor doxie won't make it, what they can do is try to hold her there and monitor her for $700 a night and give her antibiotics and fluids. If I could give no stars I would. I brought my cat in because it had hurt it's rear leg. I had to beg for xrays, but since it was near closing time, they didn't want to do it and instead invited me to come back. Given how traumatic is obviously was for my cat to be caged, taken in a car and touched by strangers, this wasn't really an option! In the end, they prescribed arthritis medicine, which didn't help. Their name is deceiving. This place does not care about your pet. When I first walked in the door, the place reeked. I know that animals can smell bad, but this place smelled worse than a petting zoo. The lobby had the oldest magazines and information pamplets, dating back to March 2008. I was not impressed.
