I've been coming to this office for a few years, mostly because I was too lazy to switch all of my children's records to a new pediatrician when our primary need was once-per-year wellness visits. When we've had sudden illnesses or weekend needs, I have opted to use the various Urgent Care medical offices scattered throughout Newport Beach rather than try to get squeezed in here, so technically Coastal Kids has only been the place we go annually. Dr. Kristin Pelinka is amazing do not let that throw you off because of the 2 stars. She was great with my daughter throughout the first year of her life. However, we have since moved to the east coast and this is where our problems began with Coastal Kids. Of course whenever you find a new pediatrician you have to have the medical records forwarded over to the office from your previous office (coastal kids). I recently moved here from the Bay Area. We found this practice to be a complete disappointment in all areas. We went to Dr. Abelowitz and had him do our sons 1 year check up. He spent barely any time listening to our questions and concerns, my son had a rash that he didn't even look at and just said it was a heat rash and to apply lotion. Terrible service. Tried to schedule a first appt for my son, and the lady was rude and unhelpful. I had my insurance card and all info ready...I got so frustrated I didn't bother and will search for an office with friendly helpful staff who enjoy their job.

We LOVE the doctors at this practice. We've seen three of them and have been really happy with the quality of care. However, the billing dept makes so many errors that we spend a great deal of energy chasing mistakes. It's so bad that at this point where we're leaving for another practice. At the end of the day, the time I have to spend fixing billing errors trumps the otherwise great care.

My wife and I had numerous bad experiences with this office. We finally had enough, last week we switched to irvine pediatrics....here are reasons why you should steer clear from this practice: -Very difficult connect to a caregiver after hours, answering service takes messages, on several occasions we didn't hear back until following day! - at each on-site appt my wife and I feel rushed, office tends to be constantly overbooked. As a picky mom, I will NOT recommend the newport beach location. For same day appointment (which happens a lot with little ones), we never get to see a doctor, rather the practicing nurse. Not to de-grade the practicing nurses, but the ones at the NB office are pretentious. They are not good listener but keen on reciting text book back to you. My daughter was a patient here from the time she was born until nearly age 3. Pros: Great doctors and very good availability of doctors. Dr. Brown was awesome! Cons: Long wait times (I averaged nearly 1 hour waits in over a dozen visits.) But this is not the real problem. The reason for 1 star is the receptionist Elda. This "pediatrics clinic" is probably the worst decision a parent could make for the most important person in their life, your child. With our first and only son, we selected this clinic without doing the research that we should have; I take full responsibility for putting ourselves in such a position.
