We moved from Los Angeles with our two toddlers while I was pregnant with our third. I was recommended to see Dr. Sandra Pertz and have been happy with her consideration and care. HOWEVER I have had real issues with billing...to the point I am seriously considering changing pediatricians. We have a very generous HMO plan that includes $0 copay for all well visits. Let me start out by saying that Dr Abelowitz is amazing. However, they have a pattern of behavior of unethical billing practices in my opinion. For example: when you come in for a well baby check up and discuss any current issues with the child (cough/cold) and no interventions are prescribed and now you are billed for a sick baby visit in addition to your well baby visit........that is wrong. They have been doing this to my knowledge since 2017.

My child has been a patient of Coastal Kids since the day she was born at Hoag Memorial here in Newport. They are fine for well checks but if you need a specialist or have a continued problem look elsewhere. It's very hard to get the same doctor, even your own primary. I do not recommend this pediatricians office as it's run like a puppy mill. Sure they have convenient hours on the weekend but the sacrifice of doctors that treat your child like a number is absolutely unacceptable.

This place is terrible. There staff here is rude. Stephanie is the worse out of all of them. They answer all questions with an attitude and they cut you off. They told me my insurance wasn't accepted anymore so I need to call and see if it's accepted. She said we take your insurance so I don't know why they sent us a letter. I'm done going to find a new pediatrician.
The main Doctor, Dr Steven A is never there at his office. At the beginning when I took my daughter, I was able to see him but he opened multiple offices and you can not see him anymore. If you try to schedule an appointment with Dr Steven A, it will take a long time to see him. He has a lot of young and new doctors. Mostly are new physicians and frankly they guess a lot. Inept, disorganized, uncurtious, rude, huge billing errors, lazy staff, not seen until an hour after our appointment, had to remind the receptionist she still had my insurance cards, had to call multiple times to tell them to fix their billing mistakes, drs just glanced at my baby and for this it costs $300.... I will not go back to this office.
Before my daughter was born I got a lot of pediatrician recommendations from other moms in the area. I ultimately chose Coastal Kids because of all the wonderful things so many people had to say about their experience there. I have only had bad experiences with the nurse practitioners in this office. I have had overall good experiences with the physicians in this office. My advice is, if you can't see a physician, to go in until you can. There is something to be said about going to medical school and going through residency that cannot be replaced by a PA. I really wanted to like Coastal Kids. Dr. Abelowitz is lovely and very nice, but the place is highly unorganized and I feel like I'm ALWAYS waiting. The average wait time for me is usually 25+ minutes (even though I always request the 1st or 2nd apts for the day). The staff at front is not friendly and are always curt and want to hurry you up.
