LARGE UNANNOUNCED RENT INCREASES IS A COMPANYWIDE POLICY AND TACTIC SO IT AFFECTS ALL LOCATIONS, NOT JUST THE ONE I RENTED FROM. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Very aggravated. My 80 year old Mom rented a unit back in August. The price quoted and contract signed was 390 a month I believe. Without warning her card was charged 452.00 per month. Now she gets a notice that the charge will go up to 483.31 starting 2 days after Christmas. This company is taking advantage of citizens in the area who have been displaced due to current home sales and loss of rental properties due to covid who have no choice but to store their belongings. Pricing of units is a scam. When we moved in we asked about the free month or the reduced rental and they said take the reduced rental if it's for long term so we did. They raised the rate after only six months and have done so continuously since and we never received any of their alleged "we mail notifications of rent increase by law" Why not also email this notice like everything else is? This facility is clean and modern. I hate how they give you a good rate to get you in, then, once your belongings are all neatly stored, they begin raising the prices. Just know that they will add MANDATORY insurance charges immediately and your rates will be jacked up substantially. My rates went from $163 on move-in to $229 in just 15 months. Increased the monthly payment without notice. Placed a lock on unit...payment was made then unable to remove the lock over the weekend. I had an emergency situation and was unable to enter my unit. Very bad for business to not have an after hour or weekend manager.
As per Christina P. review from 5/2017 which is identical to mine - it's clearly a pattern, so beware.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Once you are a renter, they will jack up your rate by 55% after a few months!!!!!!!!!!! Not cool, so now we have to move all our stuff outta there asap. This sucks!!! They gave me the excuse that because I signed up for the special web price right after they opened, they would have to raise my rates often to get me up to market value. Ultimately, this storage facility allowed my belongngs to be destroyed by fire. It is now more than a month later and the authorities and Extra Space Storage still have no answers.
