This place is clean, and in a great location. Because of that, they charge more to begin with, but I was ok with that base on location. Now, 2 months into having my storage unit, they sent me a notice that they were raising my price by 20% effective immediately. I truly thought this must have been a mistake so I went in and asked the manager, who said that in the agreement it says they have the right to raise the prices at any time. Not a good experience with the main manager Robert and his boss the main area supervisor for the area ,she never return my calls RE my complaint , Hopefully Extra space storage headquarters will read my review and do something about it , We paid for a year in advance for storage in full and get treated like we are just a nobody, like I said I've called the area supervisor three times regarding this matter and she never called me back, If you look at the reviews They are 2 1/2 stars, pure management and area supervisor issue... read more

Absolute scam. They signed me up in April 2018 for $135 for a storage unit and the service agent assured me there would "small pricing increases over time." I checked my automatically billed credit card statement and since August 2018 they have without notice increased the fee to $280 - yes, they've doubled it. I called and the agent was extremely rude and said "we have every right to increase the rent it's in the agreement." So these guys tell you one thing and bury massive increases in the fine print. As many other reviewers have mentioned, since taking over from the previous storage company prices have gone up drastically. I had three units at one point with StorSecure and Calvin, Susan and Kimo were the best. They were so helpful, friendly and took pride in making sure that the facility was spotless! With Extra Space Storage I've had multiple problems with them and am now down to two units, hoping to get out of one by the end of the month and the last by the end of the year. Just received notice that my monthly charge will be increased. I've only been renting for four months and already they're increasing the monthly charge. Increasing by $136.00. The customer service was great but increasing the price this much is terrible.

raised rent in 5 months of the move in. 30.00 dollars more too. if you like to find help nobody answers the phone. They say someone lives there but they are not available. I was locked out once and they never answered the phone . exciting place but not after 5 months and need to contact someone. I mean who closes for Lunch ... Not a storage unit?

Great when you get in, but rest assure they RAISE their rates every year, 11%+ each time! In my basic 5x8 unit, that's $20 up per month now, or $240/yr UP! I've been in this Hawaii Kai location since the day they opened, and now under new ownership with ESS the first thing ESS did was RAISE the rent! It's become ridiculous at this point, and looks like added costs go to waterfront room and board for the "live in" property managers. Nice and convenient in the first year "special" however...
