Hill Country Animal Hospital couldn't keep my Dog's records straight. I called and sat on the phone with the receptionist for over 15 minutes and she couldn't figured out anything. This is all very upsetting because keeping the dates of vaccinations are important for keeping dogs healthy and alive. I am glad I caught it and my dog was not hurt due to Hill Country's lack of due diligence. I would not recommend Hill Country and would encourage current patients to double check all records in case they messed yours up as well.

I entrusted my precious yorkie to Ms Amy Michelle Toth, DVM at Hill Country Animal Hospital and now she is DEAD. On Thursday night my yorkie only ate half her dinner which concerned me a bit. Later, she drank some rice milk. Friday morning she drank more rice milk but didn't want to eat. She was able to follow me down my stairs and even ran to be sliding glass door to bark at the next door neighbors dogs passing by. That morning I did notice she had bloody stools and it being Friday I thought I would bring her in for a ... read more

I recently left my dog here for two weeks thinking it would be a good place for them to keep an eye on my dog since they are also a hospital. I picked my dog up with tears from leaving him there. I could see his spine and hip bones. I said, "wow, did he eat? He is so skinny?" The workers stated, "he played a lot". As I took him home and looked at him more I realized there is no way this should have happened. If my dog was playing so much, where was the phone call to me to inform me of his weight loss? Did anyone notice thi... read more

I bring my four dogs here for grooming only. Yet every time I bring them in they tell me they need a shot for various things. I tell them to call my vet and check as they are up to date on shots. I tell them they are not my vet, I am using them for grooming. But every time I brought them in they would do a parasite test. My dogs don't have parasites. I had to sign a waiver. Today they said the dogs needed the flu vaccine. I called my vet and they said there has not been a dog with the flu in Austin. They are not reco... read more

I took my dogs to this vet based on a recommendation because I'm new to Austin. First they gave me a quote on an annual dental and to remove a lump. The vet said the lump needed to be sent off and it looked suspicious. They quoted me $1100. Then I dropped my dog off on the scheduled day and I told them only take the lump off, we can do the dental another day. Later that morning, the vet called me and said the lump was not suspicious and they could do it for $550. So I'm left to wonder what's really going on here. When I ... read more

The few times our dogs have come here needing veterinary attention, the veterinarians have been attentive and knowledgable. However, when we left our five small dogs to board here for four days after spring break, two came back with their own poop dried on them, all were incredibly thirsty upon coming home and two have been cowering under blankets on our laps for an hour now. The front staff was rude and impatient and the dogs seemed far less than well taken care of.

First thing you need to know about this place, is that it's run like a business. SELL SELL SELL. From the overpriced kibble to the Rx to the routine services. Which is fine, just do not expect to walk in and be told the truth. While the receptionists are extremely nice, the few nurse technicians I have spoken with are uneducated and they truly are only trying to sell you their services. The doctors, too! I'm not sure if the truly care for your pet's health, but you will likely spend thousands of dollars on surgery and unnece... read more

I wish I could give a better review because I really like Dr. Holcomb. It is always quick to get an appointment. The staff is friendly. They always call to check on my animals after they have been there. Where I am dissatisfied is in the way they charge. My cat has a skin condition that requires bi-yearly steroid injections. Today I was in and was charged for an exam and shot. When I questioned the nurse, she said that would be charged once a year. I am fine with that. The problem is, my cat did not get an exam. ... read more

Our dog is a shepherd. Collies and shepherds have genetic complications with certain heart worm medicines that have to be eaten as a pill. HCAH refused to let us buy medication anywhere but from them. That seems unethical, but more frustrating is that they do not stock the medication our dog should take. We were not told this when we had our first annual checkup with them. They refused to let us buy our medication from an online source. Now we are waiting to see if they will order the medicine our dog needs. Consider ... read more
