My experience with Hocon was that they will cheat their customers. That's a serious charge, but here's what I mean. Hocon's initial price is in line with everyone else's. Then, on their second bill, there's a big increase. Hocon's explanation: Your first bill was priced according to an introductory offer. The problem with that explanation is that the first price is fair and the second is exorbitant. I then moved to Heritage Fuel and guess what? All their bills are in line with competitors'.
The reviews are true for us as well - I recommend avoiding Hocon. We starting using them because when we bought our house the propane tanks were rented from them. The customer service has been poor for the last 4 years so when we bought a new below ground tank we decided to change companies. Very strangely our tanks were completely empty so no refund as promised but just a bill for $125 for leaving. When I called to query this, the lady I spoke to agreed to waive $80 of this charge. Hocon gas employees are rude and unprofessional. You call them to discuss a situation and you can hear them speaking in the background to see if they want to come to the phone. They let one tank run out of gas and somehow the valve on the other tank was closed. This happened right after they filled the tanks. It must be the rain deer in my neighborhood, Quality propane and Suburban were professional and more competitive, Great job Hocon!!!!!!!
Just called to inform them that the house was being sold to end service. Was told they would credit our account for the amount of gas in the tank "less a $125 service fee". When asked what that was for, I was told it was for "doing the paperwork". When I protested that seemed to be out of line I was told "that's our policy". We'll see if small claims court agrees.
Warning never purchase anything from hocan!! I first rented a 325gal tank from them for about a year and paid for extremely high rates in propane, compared to other suppliers that my friends use. I purchased the tank and two regulators. Two months after,the first stage regulator was leaking at the high pressure side of the tank. Just when I thought I was out and it couldn't get worse the unprofessional attitude shows up again. I was sitting at home the other afternoon, and the sales rep from Hocon shows up at my home. Well at least I thought it was the sales rep from Hocon, turns out that he has left Hocon and taken the list of every person he sold to when he was at Hocon and is now visiting those people. Thanks Hocon for allowing your business practices to stick it to me again, just lovely.
This Company is run by the most unprofessional bunch I have ever had to deal with. After being put on quarterly payments even though I was not on contract I sent a letter addressing my concern at paying $224.00 in one year and not even getting one delivery. I am penalized for being a low user, I pay a higher rate, but its pretty absurd to pay for nothing. Just to echo everyone else's post. DO NOT use Hocon Gas for anything. I used them for a tank rental for a fireplace insert under recommendation from my plumber. Hocon was awful from start to finish. Took a month to get a response from them after offering me a teaser rate per gallon. Finally 2 months after initiating contact, they show up with a tank and plop it on the ground. No hookup, no regulator, no gas, nothing. My plumber had to hook it up and buy the regulator for me. Then I get the bill after begging them to fill it... read more
Hocon is the worst propane supplier around. I just wish i read these reviews before i used them for my underground propane tank installation. I think the salesman was upset because i did my own excavation, trenching and backfilling. I saved my self a ton of money. If anyone needs that type of work done just email me ageruntho@gmail.com
