In a few words, overly creamy, over-priced, salty meal with mediocre service. We went to JPrime for the first and last time for my husband's 60th birthday. Things started out well but went bad quickly. We started with the escargot which was full of some sort of creamy, cheesy sauce and topped with salty flaky pastry puffs. The food is always wonderful and this night was no different.
I lowered the standards of J Prime. The experience was not what it should be. My wife and I always arrive an hour early so we can have drinks and an appetizer at the bar. We liked it. The bartenders were professional and the Oysters Rockefeller were good. The dining room was way too busy and way too over staffed. I ordered a half bottle of Duck wine which the paper menu stated the wine was $68 ... but guess what? The receipt stated $86! Even though we ate in the bar area, within happy hours, I was charged full price and not happy hour prices. Not cool and I didn’t notice until after we left. The food was extremely good, as was the service, but we probably won’t be coming back.
I made a reservation for a friend’ birthday dinner which I listed on the reservation. We got there and waited about 20 minutes just to be seated and no one appeared to know what was going on. At the table, there were no balloons or Happy birthday card on the table, I had to mention it to someone again. My friend had droplets of condensation from the AC falling on her shoulder the entire time. The table was moved a couple inches and she still was getting droplets on her. Worst service I have had there ever. Typically great service. My waiter was horrible. I took my clients out and it was a terrible experience.
Booked a table for Valentine’s Day. The experience started off great and waitstaff very attentive. Appetizers came out quickly as did the wine. However, our food never came out. Several tables came in after us and they received their food. We stopped waitstaff for update and after 25 minutes, they brought out a shrimp cocktail (which we didn’t order) as an offering from the chef for delay. We have gone to J prime many times and always had a great experience. We were celebrating a birthday. Asked for a bottle of champagne and was warm, had to tell my server to bring more glasses, bring me more plates, please serve me again. I think at this level of restaurant I should NOT be telling my server what to do. With Covid restrictions, I have to say they are not following the rules, there was a large party seating in two tables, next to us. My friend and I went to restaurant week and we had a reservation at 8:15 and show up a few minutes before and were told that they were running behind. We waiting 45 mins and then was offered a drink near the hostess stand and still didn’t have a table. After a few more minutes we were moved to the bar top and were ignored for awhile then had to flag someone down for at least an appetizer.
