Really slow in printing and copying, major fail for a business machine We're a small business. We bought this after reading its 5-star review on computershopper website. The reviewer said it was fast, but we found out to our regret it's anything but fast. It has a lot of good functionalities but it's really, really slow as a printer and especially as a copier. Not very good Colors are washed out/dull. Started having many clogged print heads after 1 month on only the second set of cartridges, all original Brother ink.
Excellent printer, when it accepts the paper This is an excellent printer - the ink cartridges last pretty long, the print quality is high, and the prints are reasonably fast for what I'm asking of it. I print a lot of covers for poetry chapbooks. I print on pretty heavy duty paper - I even bought some of the Brother 60lb. matte for my current job. Get the paper to match the printer. It worked well for the first 5 months, and we paid a premium price for high-capacity Brother cartridges because we did not expect any problems with it. Don't skimp. Get something better. Everything that you will try to do with this machine will be difficult at best - printing envelopes (still does not work), using the feeder to scan (will only scan with the top of the page facing left forcing you to rotate everything in a PDF reader), printing one sided by default. The colors are totally off. We cannot get the green anywhere close to where it needs to be. We bought it hoping not to have to invest more in an HP printer (we are a small business). It was not a good call.
Nice idea, horrible print quality And Brother's customer service is beyond help. 7+ emails back & forth and the only thing they are good at is dropping the ball so that we have to start the whole process all over again. Printer is also very slow to start printing. Typically takes 5-6 minutes from time you click 'print' to the time it decides to do something. My old Epson took less than 5 seconds. An Overall C- Scan is not good. The scan comes out smeary due to digital artifacts surrounding the image. End of story. (See attached picture.) Yes, I've tried .jpeg, .jpeg2000, and .TIFF. Makes NO DIFFERENCE. I scanned at the highest resoltution on the scanner, which is 600dpi. Copying: if you place your original up to the side of the glass plate TO GET A GOOD ALIGNMENT, the copy will cut off 3/4" on that side of the original image.
