Dr. Mackoul is a great surgeon. I had surgery on a Thursday and I was at the mall on Saturday, NO PAIN AT ALL. Never had to take any of the pain meds and I was back at my desk 6 days later. Thank GOD for Dr. Mackoul.

I had a hystertomy with May 09. Although he does not have the best bedside mannor I think he is an excellent doctor. He knows his stuff and does a very good job. I asked him to switch hospitals and he did. I think he is a very nice and caring man. If you want warm and fuss go someplace else. If you want a top-notch quality surgeon he's your guy. I highly recommend him.

I found Dr. MacKoul to be very helpful and knowledgeable. Granted, we had to wait a while to be seen, but that is to be expected with most doctors these days. His staff followed up with me one week later (as he said they would) and my surgery is scheduled for September. I've called his office several times and have always received prompt and courteous service.

Dr. MacKoul is a wonderful surgeon. I needed to have a hysterictomy and could not think about being cut from "ear-to-ear". Dr. MacKoul looked at my case and told me that he could perform the surgery laproscopic. I had the surgery on a Thursday, was released from the hospital on Friday, and was driving on Saturday. The surgery was in 2005 and I have not had a problem since that time.

MacKoul does gynecolgy / oncology -- not sure he does obstetrics at all, but the form didn't allow any other choice. His office schedules appointments and surgeries much faster (months faster for appointments, weeks faster for surgeries) than other northern Virginia gyn/onc specialists. He is expert in laparoscopic surgery, and is operates successfully even on severely obese patients and those with other complications (pulmonary, cardiac, diabetes, adhesions). I had surgery with Dr MacKoul for an ovarian cyst. I made it very clear that I only wanted the cyst removed. Once I was given the medication to induce sleep, he tried to convince me that I was beyond child bearing years and therefore should just have a hysterectomy. I said no. He became angered and abusive. He ended up removing both ovaries without my permission. Please read the Maryland Board of Physician Complaints as he is on probation and has had his license suspended. Consulted with Dr. Mackoul in 2012 to remove 1 ovary due to a large cyst. He stated he would take a tissue sample during surgery to pathology to check if malignant or benign so he could decide if the other ovary should be removed or do more biopsies. Nurse called prior to surgery to confirm the oopherectomy on the right. When I arrived at the Holy Cross Hospital I was shocked when I was asked to give permission for a hysterectomy & declined. I was healthy during adolescence and I ran cross-country for my high school. I had no health issues in my 20s & 30s. But I did not know that having painful periods and bleeding seven days straight was not normal. At age 43 I was diagnosed with adenomyosis, fibroids, and uterine polyps. This rating is for the customer service of the billing office. It is very poor service to say the least. My account was overdrawn twice by them. Dr. Mackoul was great.
