I was referred to Dr. Paul J. Mackoul from my OBGYN doctor G. Dunmore. I had a history of uterus fibroids. I have been out of work on medical leave (FMLA) with my mother for three months and received a called from my OBGYN that I needed to make an appointment to discuss my test results. My OBGYN knew that I didn't have more leave time left at my job due to my mother illness. She informed me that her procedure requires patients to be on leave for 8 weeks. I said, no way. (that's old school) . She gave me a referral to consult... read more

Did not properly diagnose the extent of the procedure and associated recovery. Likewise his remedy for post-op problem was less than optimal

Dr. Mackoul is terribly self-absorbed, to the point of nasty. I've never been more frustrated trying to speak with any doctor. Maybe the staff have improved over time, but I cannot imagine that Dr. Mackoul has learned to be a human.

I had a very simple procedure for this doctor (tubal ligation), yet had many complications he seemed unwilling to follow up on. Also it became apparent he never got my gynecological records as during surgey he "discovered" a cyst and informed my mother of it. Anyways had he gotten those records he would have known ahead of time and it seems highly irresponsible to operate on someone after only one appointment and not having any records on the person. Anyways, I complained of sharp pains every day with movement or straining a... read more

I can not believe all the great reviews for Dr. Mackoul. I had a terrible experience with him. His bedside manner is the worst I have ever encountered--I have had 4 other surgeries and have never, ever had such poor care before. He does not treat patients as people, but problems. I was having surgery to deterime if endometrosis was present and he was actually joking to me and my mother saying wouldn't it be easier to remove my ovaries instead and "you didn't want kids anyway, right?" (I was 26 at the time). When presented wi... read more

Dear patient, We are very sorry to hear about your negative feedback with regard to our practice. We have looked into these comments and were able to identify patient BL who visited our practice back in 2012 and had several appointments with Dr. MacKoul before deciding to undergo laparoscopic surgery in September 2012. The patient was happy with the outcome and returned for a second procedure with Dr. MacKoul in April 2013, which was successfully performed, with no complications. Patient BL had an IUD placed in May 2013 by a... read more

Dr.Mackoul did my laparoscopic surgery. First met him he was very pleasant but I had problems after the surgery he did not show any concerns. My surgery my time was bump by about 1.5 - 2 hours. But while I was waiting in the prep room I noticed that there was about 5 patient waiting and only one dr to operate us! 4 days after my surgery I had discomfort around my private area. I thought that I was just healing. After a week being irritated because a GAUZE was left in my viginia!!! They count everything in the operating room.... read more

I saw Dr. Mackoul late in 2011 concerning pain that I had been experiencing since a myomectomy was perfomed by another doctor in his practice. He suggested that I have a hysterctomy performed (but the ovaries would remain intact). I told him no way, do something less drastic for now to see what is going on. He went ahead and scheduled my surgery for October. Long story short, while I was in recovery, he tells my mom (he didn't look at her by the way) that nothing could be done and that a hystertectomy was the only option). W... read more

After what this "doctor" did to my mother, I will never go to him even if he is the only gyn oncologist around. Before making an appointment with this doctor, do some research about him, there are plenty of places to look online. He is cold hearted and made decisions about my mother's health care without consulting with her. He gave up on her when she was still willing and ready to continue battling her cancer. He shoved a q-tip up in her that caused her excuriating pain and she had to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes aft... read more

Dr. Mackoul is known to be a good surgeon with a horrible bedside manner. Unfortunately, he is intimidating and rude and becomes enraged when you ask simple questions. As far as his surgical expertise is concerned, I am having terrible complications following a hysterectomy. I regret allowing this man to operate on me.
