Polaris G52 Back-up Valve Assembly. This is a factory original Polaris replacement back up valve. It has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water out of a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a back up, pulling the cleaner out from the pool floor or wall. There is an arrow on one side of the hose barb that should face towards the cleaner. Broke withon a yearof purchase It split apart after only one year. (Housing broke at the threaded seem joining the two assemblies together) I am going to buy one more and hopefully it will not fail.
Did not last 4 mths. Bought Mar 1st and it cracked open this week. Quality appeared good. It could be overall design flaw and the chlorine environment. It could also be due to pool surface texture. I will keep a backup on hand from now on as they do not last like my original.

Other valves may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for... I tried the Airle replacement backup valve, but it got the polaris hose hopelessly tangled up in a matter of minutes. Less than half a day with the name brand backup valve installed, and my polaris is operating normally again. And not that much more expensive...
