Use Genuine Polaris Parts This is a lesson is getting what you pay for. The gearbox on my original back up valve got jammed up with sand after about a season and a half. I purchased a replacement from my local pool store wanting to shop local. This jammed up after about two months. So I purchased another one, which is when I realized my pool shop was selling me Chinese replacements for Polaris prices. Time will tell. Purchased this backup valve to replace one installed last summer. That valve failed long before it should have. Only time will tell if this new valve will last longer than the previous one. Both were made in China so don't set your expectations too high for durability.

Didn't want to risk buying a knockoff My Polaris pool sweep is back to working great after replacing my broken backup valve. I considered buying a knockoff backup valve for half the price but decided not to based on reviews I read. I don't know if I made the right decision but it works now. What I don't like is that the plastic body on the backup valve always cracks in the same place in the same way and no one has fixed this defect.

Failed after 75 days, just like the non-Polaris units Just like everyone else I've been disappointed by the the knockoff valves dying after only a few months so I thought I'd try this genuine Polaris backup valve from the Polaris store. It lasted 75 days running 4 hours a day. It failed in the same spot that the rest of them fail - the bearing of the turbine wheel opposite the end with the gear on it.
