Polaris G52 Back-up Valve Assembly. This is a factory original Polaris replacement back up valve. It has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water out of a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a back up, pulling the cleaner out from the pool floor or wall. There is an arrow on one side of the hose barb that should face towards the cleaner. Use Genuine Polaris Parts This is a lesson is getting what you pay for. The gearbox on my original back up valve got jammed up with sand after about a season and a half. I purchased a replacement from my local pool store wanting to shop local. This jammed up after about two months. So I purchased another one, which is when I realized my pool shop was selling me Chinese replacements for Polaris prices. Time will tell. Purchased this backup valve to replace one installed last summer. That valve failed long before it should have. Only time will tell if this new valve will last longer than the previous one. Both were made in China so don't set your expectations too high for durability.
