There are so many stories I could share about bad behavior at this hospital, but the best is from Dr. Kiswani Ogwaro. After justifying the nursing staff's behavior and finally signing off with me, I quote her verbatim: "Take care of yourself. Take care of your son. You know, mental illness runs in the family." This place was very very bad. They almost killed me by making me drink something I'm allergic to and if i cried they told me to "act your age damn it or we are making your hold longer" if you have a mental health emergency get treatment someone where else. Stanford hospital was much better then this mental health hell! This place must be shut down and a new place to be built! This place is hell for everyone! Don't not seek help here you won't get it! Go to a hospital instead!

I was there in 2018. I'm sure it hasn't changed. One of my roommates there coughed up blood or puked blood and was happy because he was allowed to go to a hospital. It was so bad a guy who puked up blood was happy to go to a hospital. Do you know how insane of an environment that would take? I do. I was there. I was locked in a small room with 10 -15 teens and it was hell on earth if not worse in some regards. Kids running into the walls trying to kill themselves. Alright, so I'm coming out as a frequent patient of the hospital. I've been there five or six times but I can't recall how many times because time doesn't matter in there, asides from the day you sign papers to come in (btw the paperwork would take hours to fill out I'll get to that later) and what day of the week it is for food. This was my very first psychiatric hospital I was ever in-patient about one year ago. I was hospitalized for suicidal ideation. Despite the fact that the nurses who interviewed me were very nice I unfortunately cannot say about the other healthcare workers. I was put in the lowest functioning unit; basically I feel as if I were put with other patients who had more severe mental disorders than I did so I felt like my safety was at risk. This place is a living nightmare for any person seeking mental health support. My young adult daughter made an appointment for an evaluation (on her own) as she was interested in an out-patient program to support her. She went in good faith, believing she would be helped. That day, without her knowing what she was getting into, they talked her into an "in-patient" experience, and suddenly she was trapped in a 5150 situation - and she had no idea what she was in for, nor was she aware of what a 5150 meant. I visited a close friend there about a month ago. They allowed me a 1-hour visit, where I had to empty my pockets and hand over my phone to reception before going in. Visitors are allowed in a lobby that looked like a cafeteria with a lot of tables and chairs. When talking to my friend in the lobby, she said that her roommate was on her 4th week of ECT (Shock Treatment) that was administered 3-times a week. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star. A family member was sent here on a 5150 for the third time because no kaiser facility had an available bed. The first time, my family member was brand new to experiencing mental health issues and my family and I thought the dirtiness of the facility, the carelessness and unresponsiveness of the facility was a norm in mental health. After being in a few different hospitals in a couple of years, this place is just absolutely unacceptable and should be shut down or at least fully reformed... read more
