Update: Our Super has turned out to be a nightmare as well. A few months ago we discovered that he had been entering our apartment without permission when we weren't home. Most recently I had an terrifying experience in which I woke up at 9 AM to him in my bedroom standing over me. Mind you I am a single girl in my early twenties, I screamed bloody murder while he simply kept saying "i knocked". I will soon be leaving a unit on Babcock Street in Brookline. What's sad is that I like my apartment on the whole--it's big, the location is fantastic, and there's parking. No pests, and I haven't had any serious maintenance issues (a leaky faucet, a non-working light fixture here and there). The Hamilton Company is very fortunate to own properties in high-demand areas, such as around the Boston University. They are too fortunate unfortunately to see that their properties are in pretty bad shape and they have a lot of unhappy tenants. This review focuses on the properties at 1144-1160 Commonwealth Ave. 1. One word: atrocious. I would give this place zero stars if I could. We lived at 283 Saint Paul Street for two years, and we could not get out quickly enough. Among their (many) misdeeds: * delivering us a notice to quit for failure to pay rent despite the fact that we paid our rent on time every month * deducting two months of rent from our checking account in a single month (which caused us to overdraw our account) * failing to return *7* phone calls from us regarding a temporary parking permit while our car was in the shop... read more
DO NOT RENT FROM THE HAMILTON COMPANY! No matter how "nice" their apartments may be. I lived in one of their Cambridge apartments with my fiance for 2 years. If we had not signed a 2 year lease initially we would have been out of there after the first year. They sent us notices with charges that we had never HEARD of and threatened to evict us 4 times (we paid rent on time EVERY month). I live at 40 Boylston and it is AWFUL. It should basically be a dorm for the awful Emerson undergrads because they treat it like one. Besides the totally disrespectful slamming of doors and loud music and parties, they smoke pot and cigarettes constantly and the walls are so thin here it drifts in to my apartment. There is nothing the management can do since they all do it in their apartments so I'm screwed. DON'T LIVE HERE if you ever want to get a good nights sleep or don't like getting high in the hallways.
Awful! I lived in a Hamilton Company apartment for about 11 months and couldn't get out soon enough! My roommate and I were consistantly ontime with our rent and received at least 4 notices threatening eviction for failure to pay. When we would call, frantically concerned and requesting a call back immediately, we never heard back. They may have some good properties at good locations with decent aesthetics. However, I've lived in a Hamilton Company apartment for two years and the whole time I've had nothing but trouble. They are disorganized (they would cash my rent check and then threaten to evict me for non payment!), dishonest (they will straight up lie to get you out of their office) and things seem to be getting worse over there. I have never been treated and spoken to worse by a company! I was parking in the Winslow parking lot in Brookline and had arranged with Christina to receive guest parking stickers every month to allow my boyfriend to park in the spot occasionally to save me the walk from his apartment.
