I've been living at 81 Essex for almost a year now and cannot wait to move out. Like so many others, my list of complaints about the Hamilton Company is endless. I have to start with laundry because it is the most frequent annoyance and the situation has not improved since I moved in. The laundry units break down frequently and I usually have to put a load through the dryer twice if I don't want wet, stinky clothes (every wash is $1.75, and $2.00 per dryer load - it adds up). DO NOT RENT APARTMENT from Hamilton Company! I put one star because that is the least number of stars I can put. I am referring to 1144-1156 Commonwealth Avenue. I cannot wait to move out of my place. The place is filthy, mice constantly visit my bedroom and bite my bag besides my bed while I was sleeping. There's a smell within the building that just make you feel as if you were in a slum (or should I say I AM in a slum). There are a few things that they do well: They fixed everything we have asked them to fix... though to be fair, most of those things should have been in working order before we moved in... but it happens. Now, on to the reason they get 1 star. A mere month and a half into our 9-month lease, we got a renewal notification telling us that our rent, if we were to renew, would be $250 LESS than what we currently pay. If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Our complex was taken over a few months ago by the Hamilton company. The last few months have been horrific. We do not have hot water every about three days. They have given out keys to rental agents as expected because we are moving soon. The issue is they did not inform us that a key to our apartment was not returned to them, a key with our address on it. It was found on the street and returned to us. Awful company staff!! Worst apartment ever!! My roommate and I lived in a HC apartment for a year. The first day we moved into that apartment was the start of our awful life. The apt is not worth to pay the rent at all!! Roaches....well, compremised if it's pretty old building....But rats (mice) .......To be honest, I've never seen a rat or mouse in any aparment before. I even caught the first one I saw in that apartment. Don't even mention the broken sink in the bathroom and worst wood floor ever...There were holes and bro... read more

I have just had an unimaginably bad experience with Hamilton Realty. A friend died of natural causes in one of the apartments they manage. The body was not found for several days and a special bio-hazard cleanup was required. Hamilton Realty sent me a bill for this, because I was the contact they had for clearing out the apartment. However, before doing the clean-up the bio-hazard company checked with the Hamilton person on call to see if the real estate corporation had insurance to cover this -- most do. I would never ever ever recommend The Hamilton Company to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I moved in with a roommate and immediately noticed the terrible shape of the building. The door in our apartment had so much water damage, that I immediately asked to have it repaired. Well, I lived there for 10 months, and it was never repaired despite asking multiple times (and my roommate asking for a year prior to my move in).
