Terrible, awful, incompetent management. I've lived at 81 Essex St for the past 10 months. My most recent problem has been with the light fixtures in my living room and my bedroom. I notified them 11 days ago. Hence, the eternal question: How many days does it take for the Hamilton Company to change a light bulb? I wish I could tell you, because they still haven't come back to fix it! Other than that, I like the location, but the building is older and is not managed very well. ILLEGAL TOWING--This rating is related to Hamilton's affiliation and use of ABC (Frank's Towing). Frank's ABC Towing illegally tows cars from the Hamilton company's parking lot on a regular basis. There is a 4 hour maximum parking time. I was towed after 2 hours. I have seen them tow a car under the maxium time limit multiple times. One time I said something to the tow truck driver about towing under the time limit. His response "your're luck I didn't choose you." Free at last, free at last, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, I'm FREE AT LAST! While I only lived at 1025 Hancock Street for about 6 months, I wish I could go back in time and tell myself not to rent there to save the time and aggravation. Between the problems with the property manager, cockroaches from the previous tenants and general disrepair of the building, I truly think I would have been better off anywhere but there. Our building is very poorly maintained. Anything that requires any sort of regular maintenance is usually a problem. Doors are always broken, keypad rarely works, both of our elevators are currently broken. Staff is friendly but usually not very truthful.

I've been a loyal Yelp user for years, and this is the first review I have ever bothered to write. In early October, I rented an apartment near Central Square from The Hamilton Company with a lease beginning January 1st. The lease was signed; the checks were cashed in October. Completely agree with the 1-star reviews that have come before mine. My last experience with them was over 2 years ago, and it still burns me up, thinking of how rude, unknowledgeable, and incompetent they are. I had an apartment in Brookline that was sold to the Hamilton Company mid-lease. If you rent from the Hamilton Company you will come to regret it. I lived in 81 Essex Street and it was one of my worst experiences living in Boston. First, the building itself has major flaws. The elevator is constantly breaking down, the laundry and trash units in the basement are kept in horrible and unsanitary conditions, and the building literally smells awful.
