Update- Major design flaw which can be overcome The media could not be loaded. Let me start with the good. I like the design of the canister overall. I particularly like the way that it collects leaves and debris without causing a reduction in pressure as the canister begins to fill up. The flow of the water is separated from the filter inside the canister. With that said, as many in this review section have mentioned, the lid of the canister does not maintain a tight seal and will suck in air as it floats on the top of the water. Naturally, this causes a loss of pressure, causing the sweeper (in my case the MX8) to completely stop moving. My understanding is that allowing air through the system for long periods of time will ultimately harm the motor. This design flaw is the reason for the 3-stars. Ultimately, my solution, which seems to have resolved the problem, is fairly straightforward. I’m surprised none of the reviewers here have mentioned this solution. All I did was attach the canister between the hose segments closest to my MX8 sweeper unit. This forces the canister to mostly remain submerged. Even when my MX8 climbs the wall and the canister comes above the waterline, the lid section mostly remains underwater. In this situation the lid does briefly come above the waterline at times, and, subsequently, the canister does take in some air. However, my MX8 sweeper unit eventually leaves the wall and re-submerges the canister again, eliminating the air in the canister so as to remain moving. All in all, it’s hard to imagine that zodiac could charge anywhere from $80-$100 for a canister that can’t maintain a seal on the lid. However, with that said, the solution that I described appears to be a good one. I also saw one reviewer mention spraying silicone to the lid seal which he said worked well. However, I wouldn’t know from personal experience, as I didn’t try this. UPDATE - Well, turns out the canister still rises to the top and takes on air when it’s in the shallow end. There’s still an easy fix to the problem, though. I just moved the canister from between the hose sections closest to my MX8 sweeper unit and attached it to the hose section which attaches directly to the wall suction inlet (see video). This keeps the canister underwater at all times without any movement whatsoever. This really does fix what seems to be a fatal flaw of the lid not sealing properly and taking in air. Powerful and very easy to clean up The Zodiac Cyclonic Leaf Catcher is easy to setup but it is much easier to disengage the canister, empty its contents and attach it back into the Leaf Catcher. It is such an improvement from the other brands I owned, they were very difficult and almost impossible to separate the canister to empty its contents. Thanks Zodiac :-).
