Im not saying this is a 1 star place, it's actually nice... but I just had a 1 star experience. And if you want to speak to the manager, they will use the line,"I am the manager" dun dun dun! A very unsympathetic manager named Doug Watson, refused to understand what I'm trying to say and simply claims without a doubt that I'm wrong. Situation: My girlfriend called to set an appointment however she missed it. And due to that, they want to charge me a fee. And part of the requirement to charge me a fee is that they must h... read more
They charged me an arm and a leg to see my cat and do tests, and when I called two days later after my cat passed out again they wouldn't even talk to help me, just told me to bring him in and spend more money. They haven't been successful at diagnosing my cat in the past, but are excellent at charging me a fortune.
The competency of care was fine I suppose. What bothers me is that we brought our cat in for a minor urinary issue that immediately cleared up with some prescription cat food. Then I was told (contrary to what my wife believes she was told) that I had to keep our cat on this expensive food. No trying out a different over the counter brand, no seeing if was just a brief stress or behavior issue, no seeing if the issue will return first. I didn't exactly care for that line of thinking. So, next issue is that I have some ... read more
This place is absolutely TERRIBLE. I have never had a worse experience with any business- much less one that is caring for something that means so much to me. I board my dog at a vet in Houston about half of the time I travel, so I know my dog does fine with being boarded and he does fine with the cages at vets. Yet every time I have taken him here, he has had serious problems. The first time, he started showing unusual aggression toward dogs for months afterward. He normally loves playing with other dogs. The staff started ... read more
I first used Austin Vet Hospital several years ago (at their old location), but after one visit, I decided to switch to another provider based on a negative encounter I experienced with an office staff person. Recently, I heard from some neighbors that service had improved (at the new location), and I decided to give them another try. Unfortunately, customer service seems to have deteriorated even further based on the less-than-friendly, dismissive and combative attitude I encountered on the phone with an office staff person... read more
Summary: If you don't respond well to vets that give you the hard sell, I would avoid this place. If you like your dogs on Trifexis and Hill's then it's perfect for you. Star goes to friendly staff and never having to wait for appts. After going through Yelp reviews and checking them with recommendations from APA (where my dog was adopted from), I decided to give the Vet Hospital a try. First visit, doctor tries to sell me on Trifexis, which takes care of both heartworm/fleas, and is of course the brand they carry, at $3... read more
Business response:
Lynnea, I am sorry that you had a bad experience at our practice. We work hard to exceed our clients expectations and are always disappointed when one of our clients leaves dissatisfied. We have called you several times (we even spoke to someone at your home the next day) and sent you a letter attempting to address your concerns. Please let us know if we can do anything to remedy the situation. Best regards, Dr. Thomas J. Palvino, DVM Austin Vet Hospital
I have been to AVH 3 times in the past year. First visit was a pediatric checkup for my kitty Ginny, and I had Dr. Besch. No complaints, although, Dr. Besch wanted me to come back for a check-up and rabies shot for Ginny... and I thought to myself, "you're going to charge me an office fee, plus vaccination fee... don't you know about Emancipet?" Literally two days after the pediatric check-up, Ginny started vomiting and had diarrhea. It really worried me that she was vomiting and had diarrhea so I called AVH and told them ... read more
*** CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP HAS RUINED THIS PLACE! *** When I first started going to Austin Veterinary Hospital, I was extremely impressed by Dr Besch (the former owner) and Dr Schaubert. Both women were - and still are - fabulous vets, and I have nothing but praise for them and the treatment my pets received in their care. I particularly liked Dr Besch, and her direct, "no nonsense" manner, because it was obvious she became a vet because she loved animals, and not for love of a quick buck. Indeed, on one occasion, when one of ... read more
I took my pets there once. They were nice and reasonable. BUT they offer cat declawing! For that barbaric practice I can only give them 3 stars. Read more about declawing : http://cats.about.com/od/declawing/tp/reasonsnot.htm
