Get directionsMy father has lived here since 2020; came in for rehabilitation and stayed due to advanced dementia. Up until last year, 2024, everything seemed to be ok. Well 1 week ago my father was treated at Scripps Mercy for severe dehydration and severe kidney damage. We thought he had been hurt or fell down.... Had no idea that it was due to staff negligence. Some staff members are fantastic.... Others are not. Do not send family members here without constant contact or visitations. Sometimes the doors are closed and no one a... read more
I am very disappointed in their follow up process, never did a nurse call me to tell me the status of my mother until she was being discharged. The facility failed to let me know my mother was unable to bathe herself, I found out the day after she came home. Their phones always ring but you have to call several times to have someone speak to you. I understand there's a lot of patients here but the least you can do is follow up promptly!
Not a care central type of facility in the evening hours. I felt like nurses are hiding out, when they have to deal with patients they have been rude and degrading. The food is inedible. The fact that this place does not have AC, is bad. The heatwave we just had was hard on the patients and all that could be provided was a fan. I think an institution that takes care of sickly elderly should have good food and AC.
Not impressed ...had to travel from Fresno since I am my aunts power if attorney. Hospital had me tour this place and the first impression left a bad taste in my mouth. I received a call from a rep and wanted me to sign a paper that my family member would not end up staying there after therapy services were stopped "illegal" . I would never leave my family member here .
I run a local nonprofit for Parkinson's, and Balboa Rehab used to be my first choice for referring patients, based on both family and first hand experience. Over the last year alone, I referred six people to them... but no more!!! They have now installed scent dispensers in the lobby and on all the floors. If they did their homework, they would know that is the last thing a person undergoing rehabilitation needs, much less a healthy one. When I called to provide feedback, I was basically blown off. I have just been contacted... read more
The most depressing nursing home we've ever been to. They have rehab in their name but it's really just a long term nursing home. Most rooms have 3 people in them. It's old, dirty, run down and barren. Such an incredibly sad place to spend your last days/weeks/months of life. My mother fell and had a brain injury. She was in the hospital for a month and then went to the Springs rehab in La Jolla. She recovered enough to go back to her apartment at Merrill Gardens but had a cardiac event and had to go back to the hospital. Af... read more
The worlds worst after they had my father on the floor no bed just mattress in the room with three other men. The smell of your worn would make your eyes water and now they're sending me a bill. I laugh at it because when he left everything was supposed to be paid up like I asked him now they're sending threatening bills. They still haven't fixed the stairwell from where that older woman got raped.
To be honest I wanted to give this place a pass because of COVID's history but it seemed to be that only the custodial and kitchen workers were doing their jobs efficiently. The nurses are rude and lazy. The management is sub par at best and the quality in food is unpalatable. So as much as I appreciated the work that was put into making it, it was just unacceptable for such an establishment. I can only hope that they seriously take into consideration to better their quality in service and food. On the bright side one perso... read more
This place is horrible!!! The only good thing about this facility is Joseph(Marketing and Admissions) The nursing staff is disrespectful, mean and rude, one in particular is Eva. She was so short and nasty to me and my 84 y.o. Dad! When my Dad would ring the bell for assistance he was ignored or treated in an impatient manner. He then would tell us, bc we would call to check on him throughout the day. Then we would have to call and ask for assistance for him. My Dad is not an impatient man so his treatment was hurtful and d... read more
