My wife was discharged from Green Hospital yesterday, after spinal cord surgery. She received wonderful care there and was told Balboa Nursing And Rehabilitation would be an excellent after care facility to progress with her recovery. She had read reviews of such facilities close to our Hillcrest home, receiving 5+ favorable responses. I'm still having to reside here ONLY because of needing IV antibiotics because of a spinal fracture. But I have to seriously complain about that I've witnessed a patient be taken to 7-11 in wheelchair by staff members just the other day.Yet when I asked for the exact same thing I was told NO!! When I gotten near the door I'm treated like a prisoner, not cool! Another bad thing is maintenance when it comes to room 225 the TV in front of bed A is half ass fixed after now 2 weeks and the toilet has been clogged for a week 1/2. ... read more

IT DOESN'T DESERVE A 1 STAR! It should be a negative 10!Horrible place!! Do not take your loved ones there! They don't care about the people there! We would stay from 9a-9p everyday with our mom and the one day we got there late we found her bed full of urine and my mom sitting on the hard chairs for visitors hunched over sleeping-almost falling over sitting in urine! I visited San Diego for birth of grandchildren, a slip and fall late May resulted in two major surgeries same day, followed by inpatient rehab, as I live out of State. Due to traumatic injuries and variables, research for rehabs was fast, but Balboa Rehab/Nursing website was Yelp 5-Stars, had a bed and close to daughter. We thought we hit the lottery until... My father has lived here since 2020; came in for rehabilitation and stayed due to advanced dementia. Up until last year, 2024, everything seemed to be ok. Well 1 week ago my father was treated at Scripps Mercy for severe dehydration and severe kidney damage. We thought he had been hurt or fell down.... Had no idea that it was due to staff negligence. I am very disappointed in their follow up process, never did a nurse call me to tell me the status of my mother until she was being discharged. The facility failed to let me know my mother was unable to bathe herself, I found out the day after she came home. Their phones always ring but you have to call several times to have someone speak to you. I understand there's a lot of patients here but the least you can do is follow up promptly!

Not a care central type of facility in the evening hours. I felt like nurses are hiding out, when they have to deal with patients they have been rude and degrading. The food is inedible. The fact that this place does not have AC, is bad. The heatwave we just had was hard on the patients and all that could be provided was a fan. I think an institution that takes care of sickly elderly should have good food and AC.

Not impressed ...had to travel from Fresno since I am my aunts power if attorney. Hospital had me tour this place and the first impression left a bad taste in my mouth. I received a call from a rep and wanted me to sign a paper that my family member would not end up staying there after therapy services were stopped "illegal" . I would never leave my family member here .

I run a local nonprofit for Parkinson's, and Balboa Rehab used to be my first choice for referring patients, based on both family and first hand experience. Over the last year alone, I referred six people to them... but no more!!! They have now installed scent dispensers in the lobby and on all the floors. If they did their homework, they would know that is the last thing a person undergoing rehabilitation needs, much less a healthy one. When I called to provide feedback, I was basically blown off.
