My dad is at Balboa right now and if this is not as good as it gets, it's WAY better than any of the three other places he's been! The building is nice and clean and the nurses (which I think are the BIGGEST factor) are wonderful. My dad has never liked the nurses at any rehab place he's been to and he has only great things to say about the nurses at Balboa. He says they look like dolls. And they do! I am very proud from the nursing to the Rehab staff. I would stay there if I needed to. The secret is to request them, because certain case managers will put you in a place to whoever pays them the most. Balboa has the highest nursing rations, the nicest place, and are very honest and ethical and works very closely with Sharp, who also is a first class operation. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

My father just stayed at Balboa Nursing & Rehab on the Rehab floor (4th floor) for 4-5 days. We were very pleased with the staff and services here. Everyone on staff was very nice and responsive to all our requests and questions. The P/T's and O/Ts were very good my dad socially while assisting him with his therapy. They frequently came back during the day to check on him in his room aside from their scheduled appointments with him. I would not recommend this facility based on our recent experience. My father was there for 7 days, and the level of care was unacceptable. Response times were extremely slow, and it often took far too long for staff to assist him when needed. We found ourselves staying all day, every day, just to make sure he received basic care. No family should feel like they have to be present at all times just to ensure their loved one is taken care of. Rating: (Zero stars if I could) DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE - AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE I am writing this on behalf of a close friend who was recently housed at Balboa Skilled Nursing Center. My wife was discharged from Green Hospital yesterday, after spinal cord surgery. She received wonderful care there and was told Balboa Nursing And Rehabilitation would be an excellent after care facility to progress with her recovery. She had read reviews of such facilities close to our Hillcrest home, receiving 5+ favorable responses. Upon arrival we were stunned by how great their Halloween decorations were not only outside, but inside, as well. Some staff members were in costumes, adding to the experience. I'm still having to reside here ONLY because of needing IV antibiotics because of a spinal fracture. But I have to seriously complain about that I've witnessed a patient be taken to 7-11 in wheelchair by staff members just the other day.Yet when I asked for the exact same thing I was told NO!! When I gotten near the door I'm treated like a prisoner, not cool! IT DOESN'T DESERVE A 1 STAR! It should be a negative 10!Horrible place!! Do not take your loved ones there! They don't care about the people there! We would stay from 9a-9p everyday with our mom and the one day we got there late we found her bed full of urine and my mom sitting on the hard chairs for visitors hunched over sleeping-almost falling over sitting in urine! I visited San Diego for birth of grandchildren, a slip and fall late May resulted in two major surgeries same day, followed by inpatient rehab, as I live out of State. Due to traumatic injuries and variables, research for rehabs was fast, but Balboa Rehab/Nursing website was Yelp 5-Stars, had a bed and close to daughter. We thought we hit the lottery until...
