We used Climate Control to repair a 22 year old furnace in a rental property. The technician was prompt, polite & efficient, quickly diagnosing the problem. A main problem with Climate Control is their exorbitant markup of parts. It's great they had the part on their truck, but a 400% markup is a bit steep. We could have bought the part online for ~$70 - $100 - they charged us $430. Good thing the costs are tax-deductible!
Business response:
We regret to learn of your dissatisfaction regarding the parts markup. Our standard procedure involves providing detailed quotes and obtaining explicit authorization prior to commencing any repairs. We acknowledge your concerns.
Competent, but extremely expensive. Quoted me $1800 to replace a reversing valve and filter drier on my heat pump. Turns out this only included six pounds of refrigerant (R-410A). The unit took 12 pounds - they charged me $175/lb for the additional six pounds. When I looked up the cost of R-410A on line, it was selling for ~$10/pound, so they had more than a 1500% markup on the refrigerant. Before you use them, get a quote on the price of refrigerant - you might decide to go elsewhere when you hear what they charge.
Climate Control will let you down when you need them most. They will not stand behind their warranty, and view your crisis as a way to profit. They sold me a Mitsubishi heat pump. It was a competitive bid situation. When I inquired about the warranty, they said the unit had a 10 year warranty. I asked "if anything breaks In that period, will I need to pay anything?" The answer was a decisive "no!" . That was a lie. Before the second summer started, the coil had a catastrophic failure. It took over 3 months to repair. They... read more
Business response:
Hi Brian, I understand this situation has been an ordeal. I am truly sorry for that. We do not like or agree with how Mitsubishi has handled their parts and equipment shortage. And by extension the issues it has caused Climate Control customers. It is never our goal to lose a customer or provide less than satisfactory customer service. Mitsubishi had a major supply chain issue this summer and we exhausted every effort to get parts for you as fast as possible. The first coil Mitsubishi shipped came damaged, at which poin... read more
During the week of the heatwave (June 27th+) in Portland (the AC in my rental property developed a leak in the plumbing in my garage. The end of the week I called around for service and scheduled Climate Control for service on July 9th. On that day the technician called me and said the coil needed cleaning and the condensation piping needed a clog removed. He quoted me $619. I found this exorbitant but had no choice since I was not prepared to inconvenience my tenant. While the work was done, I think Climate Control was op... read more
Lengthy and unclear sales process. Took 2 hours for them to check everything out at our house before getting info needed for a quote. The quote then took nearly a wk, but then took several wks for me to remind them to complete the quote which required some input from the electrician. With the final quote, we were told they could get us an install in about a wk. A few days later we said we'd like to install, and were quoted 1.5 months out for install. I understand it's getting hot out and AC is now in high demand, but still ... read more
I hate writing bad reviews and I hate having to tell long stories. My experiences with Climate Control over the last few years make a looong story. And I will tell it when I am in the mood to do so. But for now, know that I have bought 2 A/C systems from them in the recent past and in both cases the installs were full of surprises, all caused by Climate Control. No outright disasters, but close. They seem like a happy-go-lucky bunch when it comes to details and follow-thru, which means you might get what you paid for or you ... read more
I don't usually post negative reviews, I just stop doing business there. However after this last weeks experience I need to warn you about doing business with them. I have used Climate Control for several years and have had an annual service agreement for two visits a year plus a discount on additional parts and labor. Overall the service and timeliness has been fine up to now. The fall service was scheduled for Friday the 4th between 9 -12. At noon called them as no one had showed up or contacted me. Was told that the tec... read more
Beware! STAY AWAY FROM CLIMATE CONTROL. Read all the reviews on here and believe the customers when they say these guys are fraudulent! They upcharge by 1000x, they LIE, they can't even get their employees scheduling sorted out! What a freaking nightmare I had to go through with this company yesterday. After my grandmother's long commitment to them of 15+ years, we finally decided to find a better, HONEST, polite, PROFESSIONAL company to work with. Goodbye Climate Control. We are also contacting the better business bureau li... read more
We initially had Climate Control install our new heating and cooling system. At that time they did a good job. We just recently had them out, my husband requested a new thermostat as we were having issues with it. He also stated to please have annual service and a new filter. We were quoted for the annual service and filter and was told the thermostat was under warranty. I met them at the house, the service repair man was very nice. He did not have the thermostat we needed in his van, so he would have to come back. Aft... read more
