i recently had my storage unit broken into by what appears to have been from another unit. after having to take time to file a police report and speaking to the insurance company, i am highly disappointed the process and especially with the lack of communication from the insurance company. i was told after spending 20 minutes explaining my situation that the system was down and wasnt able to enter the data into the system. that someone would get back to my with a case number and related details. this was over a month ago and... read more

I've had it with these folks... money grabbing in the most unethical way. I have had a 10x10 unit for exactly one year of which I contracted for 232.00. I received a "rate change notice' to 372.00 affective Oct 29th 2018. There is no reason for this in terms of market drivers. When you call them, they give you some bs answer about competition ... and the on site folks are not equipped to answer any questions pertaining to rates. There are other options in Honolulu ... I mean to take them up. ESS... you fail.

I love that it is air conditioned. The elevator is broken on one end and it looks as if it will never get fixed. It's always crowded. It's also very sketch. Scary. There are homeless people living there. You can hear a tv or radio coming from one of the units at night. There are people there all day. It's clean for the most part. I am disappointed. It's a big place and for the most part it's clean.

So, we have 2 businesses and have had a long relationship with Extra Space. We've rented our 10x10 from them for about 2 years. Rob the old manager was great and we communicated quite a bit on the regular. We built a great business relationship with them and they even hired us to do the pressure washing work for the parking lot. Unfortunately, Rob had to leave for personal reasons and all the great staff that was there managing the property have subsequently gone. Unless you are only going to store your stuff here for a couple of months, stay away! At first, it was a great deal. Basement unit, pie shaped, with a huge cement pillar in it. It had charm, to say the least. First couple of months, rent was about $330, plus their MANDATORY INSURANCE, which added about $35. Then, few months later, went up a bit. I've been a customer for about 4 years now, and while the staff are really nice, it's upsetting that the prices go up every single year. I have the smallest size storage space and it is almost $78.It isn't easy to get to, and it's very small. I get that rent is expensive these days, but $80 a month for a tiny space is ridiculous. What's more ridiculous, is that they have these "move in" specials that offer this low price, and then they charge you the regular rate afterwards, for a bigger space than I have. Nice facility. Good access. Staff is not friendly or helpful. The troubling thing about this company is the constant rate increases. I can maybe see a yearly increase, but these guys raise their rates every few months. They also force you to pay $10 for insurance which is ridiculous! They feel that they can keep charging more because we will keep paying more rather than hassle with a move. This company will soon find itself in big trouble.

BEWARE OF EXTRA SPACE RENT INCREASES Every 9-10 months they will jack up your monthly rent by 10-15%! They think that you would rather pay more than move out. You won't get a fixed term contract so they will increase your rent whenever they decide on "market rates". Be ready to move out before you pay far too much. Their plan is pure Bait & Switch

The only good thing I can say is that the storage units are clean and they do check on them. There is also indoor parking.Otherwise they are terrible. The customer service is non-existant and the employees act like they are doing you a favor, It is so obvious that no one likes their job. The elevator is terribly slow but there is supposedly another one at the other end of the building.
