I was curious about Madison Reed, so I was excited to learn that a Color Bar was opening in the DC area. The good: The service is excellent! You are walked through the color selection process, and everything is explained along the way. I love that I was attended to even when my hair was processing. I've been a longtime user of Madison Reed hair color in the mail, so I was thrilled when they opened a brick and mortar location near me. I opted for the roots + gloss treatment and had Tiffany as my technician. She was super friendly and helped me pick a new shade that would be better for my skin tone (I went from Sardinia Red to Genova red which is sooo much better). Update: Within the hour of me reporting the incident, the manager called me and apologized for behavior. It was refreshing to have a such a quick response. They gave me a $20 gift card and acknowledged the behavior was inappropriate. I did cancel my membership. Unsanitary + Aggression: The daughter of the owner's attitude is entitled to put it lightly. What a horrid experience from start to finish. I'm a brand new client and was so excited. This was the one moment of peace in my day and I left in tears. I went in there for a balayage, roots, and a blow dry. It was such an awful experience I modified the booking to just roots- and in retrospect I should have canceled entirely. Stay far away from Victoria. She shampooed my hair and was supposed to blow dry but it was such a bad experience I just decided I'd be better off not letting her touch my hair. disaster. my daughter went in for a subtle highlight. She came out with darker but orange hair. Technicians asked me how long product was on - I think this is their job. we left and went straight to Aveda for a color correction where they told us this happens frequently with this place. I've been a MadisonReed member since 2015--today, I finally had enough. Here's why: Inaccessible Support Impossible to reach decision-makers. Their online chat is a dead end, and the AI-driven phone menu makes connecting with a real person nearly impossible. I was 10 mins late - admittedly my fault. I apologized and they didnt seem to be mad or but the colorist proceeded to rush through the process, sloppily sweeping huge parts of my ears and neck with color, and then using the alcohol swabs after to (sloppily) clean skin - which she didn't do well. Run as fast as you can. They are understaffed and unprofessional. The colorist argued with me about the color shade I've been getting for years elsewhere. I know pretty well what that's been but she insisted it was 2 tones darker than it actually is.

I really was looking forward to this appointment after a stressful week and left feeling taken advantage of. I've been to this location 3 or 4 times and had a great experience with Melody. My most recent experience with Banesa (I think that was her name) was not great.
