Does NOT do Duplex Scanning! I intended to replace my 3+ year old, cheap black-and-white Brother printer with this model. I specifically wanted to print in color, duplex (this item checks these boxes). Come to find out - this unit does NOT scan in Duplex mode. Therefore, I now have my old, cheap black-and-white printer/scanner that DOES duplex scan sitting next to this unit. The absolute worst printer I have ever put in my office. This printer is slow, constantly pauses during printing, and takes forever to transfer data. The 7 year old OKI printers I replaced printed 10 pages to this Brothers 1 page. Huge waste of money!!
I am disappointed in the operation and color clarity produced by this printer. The first problem I encountered was realizing that the colors were not as vibrant as I thought they would be on a color laser printer. I just got rid of an inkjet printer that was just as clear as my new Brother. I also encountered a problem with not being able to set a custom paper size, insert special paper, and print on it using a Publisher document. I hate this printer and I would throw it against the wall if it wasn't so heavy Cannot override double-sided printing for certain applications. Also other default settings, such as paper selection, cannot be re-set and have to be selected each time to avoid massive waste of paper or envelopes, depending on the type of job. Tech support is non-existent. Blows through cartridges Had a Epson printer before this and the cartridges seem to last forever and were much cheaper. This blows through expensive cartridges faster than a New York minute.
Waste of Money Constantly drops from the network and have to reinstall every few days. And even that is a process as the network usually doesn't find it until you remove and add and unplug and plug several times. Print quality is very poor for what you pay for it.
Manufacturer update fried my motherboard 6 weeks out of warranty The machine worked well for over a year. Some minor difficulties, like it was picky about sending a scan via bluetooth to my email, but manageable. Printed and copied well. 6 weeks after my warranty expired (1 year) I was told there was no firmware available, which I downloaded. My machine froze solid. Printer and Customer Service Suck! Printer is less than a year old and the toner started to act up with only have the toner used and Brother customer service would not replace the toner cartridge. Ive been a long time customer and will never buy their printer again.
