If you're looking to dine at the restaurant pictured on the Bartolotta webpage for Ristorante Bartolotta don't come here. This venue is anything but romantic. It is extremely noisy and brightly lit, certainly not the romantic dimly lit restaurant the pictures would lead you to believe. Furthermore, if you're under the age of 30 and don't look like you're going to spend at least $200 or $300 you probably won't be treated well. Have eaten here on numerous occassions...normally great. Unfortunately this time it was marred by poor service. We ordered a bottle of wine and before it arrived the wait staff brought our salad and special white truffel chesnut soup. I told them to take it back to the kitchen until we had a chance to taste our wine. I'm afraid we weren't that impressed with our experience. Though the restaurant was attractive it lacks some basic features. The lighting was not sufficient to read the menu. We ended up holding a candle to the menu to read it. The staff was having difficulty with that too. The acoustics were VERY bad. service was slow - first waitress disappeared for 10 minutes after we order our glasses of wine. second waitress appeared during diner and was very attentive - never saw first waitress again until time for desert
The food was melt in your mouth perfect. The salmon was crisp on the outside yet very moist. All dishes had a marvelous combination of flavors and textures. We enjoyed the wine our server recommended to go with our entrees. Service was not very attentive; couples on both sides of us arrived after we did and were served each course 10 to 15 minutes ahead of us. We waited so long that we lost interest on ordering dessert. Nice ambience but the tables are very close together and that can inhibit personal conversation.
Did not meet our expectations and definitely was overpriced. $12.50 for a house vodka lemondrop martini--really??? Food was nothing special and very overpriced. My clams were cooked into nothingness. My wife's pasta and seafood dish was missing the seafood. Tough fish, over done vegetables that were unedible. Strikes us as a restaurant that is living on an old reprutation and no longer cares about quality or cusine. Sad.
We had dined here several times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the food and overall experience. This time we found the menu and food uninspired, average at best both in taste and appearance.
Our server was, apparently, under a great deal of pressure which resulted in nothing coming on time. We waited for a drink for an hour. Do NOT tell the served you need a moment with the menu, because your "moment" will become 45 minutes until you see her again. How can a waitress hide in such a small restaraunt? Good food, nice wine, pathetic service.
