Brooklyn Diner gets the pace of pre-theater dining, at least for a matinee performance. They are cordial, pleasant and efficient in their delivery, using guest's names with reservations upon arrival. The menu is diverse and portions appear generous. The iced tea glass for example, is a generous 16 oz + glass, rather than some pischer container. This is a very good venue with a mix of tourist and local for the discovery vibe and to get to you the theater on time.
Food, service, price all add up to a wonderful spot in the theatre district. Soup, salads, entrees were all reasonably priced for NYC! Great place to meet before the theatre!
You'll get food here that you'll never get anywhere else. I've been here four times and have never been disappointed. Their chicken pot pie is big enough for two people to climb into the casserole dish and have a good hot bath. My perennial favorite is the pastrami mac and cheese - it is linguini not macaroni, white cheese sauce (alfredo, provolone?) and the pastrami in the sauce gives it a smokiness like a prosciutto would. My second favorite is the pot roast with noodle kugel. And a small plate that keeps people coming bac... read more
Much too expensive for type of resturant and menu type
So good we went back two days later. It will be back again on our next visit to NYC.
I stumbled upon this restaurant during a recent trip to NYC. It was bitterly cold so impossible to wander around looking for a place for lunch. I'm not from NYC, but I've lived in many urban areas. I find $25.00 a bit excessive for a pastrami sandwich. Admittedly, the pastrami was delicious, but the portion size was modest. Had it been Carnegie Deli size, I could understand.
We could not have had a better experience at the Brooklyn Diner on 57th Street. We wanted to change from the other location and they were so gracious in changing it for us and greeted us in such an enthusiastic way. They were helpful and attentive our whole visit and ALL of our food was fabulous!! Anything with pastrami is delicious and every single person in our group loved their meal
Always love it there!
The food is always good and the service is attentive and friendly. The hostess, Danielle, is pleasant and remembers customers even with months in between visits. Fine hospitality, great midtown location and comfort food. Love the Brooklyn Diner.
