I needed a clean, secure and friendly place to store all of my belongings for six months while I traveled and Extra Space Storage in Alameda fit the bill. The manager Earl was super sweet and set me up quickly. Angela and the guy on site helped me when my friend jammed the elevator. After six months of storage, I spent almost a week going there every day to repack my stuff to ship it cross country and I had a lovely time each day. Clean, seemingly safe, but not necessarily well secured. My experience was more frustrating than the other reviewer. I checked out extra storage because it was much less expensive than near by alternatives (High St bridge/A1 storage/coliseum storage). Larger units (5x5 and bigger) have big steel doors, but the smaller unit I saw inside was a dinky wooden door. Well, we have to sell our house! One income just doesn't cut it with the high mortgage. So storage we need close by before relocating overseas with some of our stuff while other things will stay in the (no longer quitw so) Good OLE USA for a future part-time return. After checking on yelp for storage spaces in Alameda, and finding only 2 rated, poorly at that, I was gonna go with the place across the High Street Bridge which has great ratings. We left our stuff in there after moving and when we finally went to check on it, it was completely infested with rats and all our belongings were covered in rat poop and piss and the boxes were all torn into. On top of it getting charged so much for this to happen?? And when we brought it up we got told "oh yes we're near an area where there's a lot of rats" OK??? Maybe mention that???? Do not leave your stuff here. There's rat traps all around as well, I don't know how we missed this. Oh AND they charged us more without inf... read more

I really wish I'd read the reviews first. Buyer beware - if you rent here they will hike your rent multiple times within the first year. My rate went up by 130% in less than a year ($94/mo to $210/mo). If you call and protest they'll lecture you that your contract says the starting rate was a "promotion" and the increases are legal. I have learned my lesson and I hope anyone reading this is spared from this predatory business.

I rented a unit here fro 6 months and came back to it full of rat/mice droppings and bags that were chewed through. I notified the front desk and they basically ignored the situation and said only I could do was file an insurance claim. They are not working on cleaning units, making it a sanitary place to store valuables or clearing the current infestation. do not recommend!

Horrendous experience. They doubled my rent within the first three months and when I finally went to move my stuff, rats had ruined my furniture. I cannot emphasize enough to stay away from this place.
