Just had a crown procedure which was performed by Dr. Darryl Nishihira. He made the whole process painless. Both he and his assistant did an excellent job and I highly recommend them.

I found Gentle Dental through the website of my Insurance Plan. They were close by so I made an appointment. And I am glad I did. They were great - and I never felt discrimated against due "to being white people". Anyone reading the other review that says they do, would be a fool to believe it! They treated me like family. The Xray tech was such a sweetheart - difficult to smile and laugh while having that thing in my mouth, but she did make me grin. I was rescheduled twice as a new patient, both times because the hygienist was "running behind." After rearranging my schedule twice, I was asked to reschedule yet again. It's clear the office may be severely understaffed and overworked, and unfortunately, patients are paying the price. The receptionists are left dealing with frustrated patients while the clinical staff remain in the back. This was my first experience as a new patient, and it left a terrible impression. Worst experience ever. I am accustomed to Dental offices that attempt at least a temp fix for issues that need to be scheduled out. No here. No temp solution, just pay a ton of money for an implant. Also don't expect that they will come sit with you and go over options, short term, long term and costs because that doesn't happen. They just looked at my teeth took every x-ray under the sun to charge my insurances and just tried to send me on my way to book out months away when I can't even eat. When I got some work done starting in 2023 everything was good until I had a filing and a crown in March of 2024. I paid my part, but was later billed for higher amount. Called and tried to get it resolved. But never got a call back. Great dentist but the billing is awful. I'm still being billed.

Left a review over a year ago regarding billing. This is STILL not resolved. This issue is going on 3 years! DO NOT GO HERE. They continue to send me monthly statements for an amount they stated they were going to write off. (I have emails and written documentation.) Because of this, I've filed a complaint with the OCP, Hawaii state dental boards, the BBB, RICO, my own dental insurance for fraudulent billing and upcoming/upcharges.

I was on time for dental cleaning appt. Was seated in chair, x-rays were taken, and after a half hour, I was told "You are dismissed." Whatever that meant. So I left. Not sure if all clients are treated this way, but I was certainly convinced my time was wasted on this business.

*Update. Gentle Dental sent the claim I "did not owe" to a debt collector service. I refuted the charges. After 3 months of the collectors awaiting response from Gentle Dental they finally responded saying I do owe a balance that was unpaid for by my insurance at the time. Worst billing services I have ever experienced. Spoke to multiple employees from this company from different branches and locations for 3+ years informing me I did not owe anything.
