You must install all three colors and black ink for any type of printing to occur. The printer does not use all of the ink in the cartridge before it has a warning sign that you need to replace the cartridge and it will not print using Existing ink in other cartridges. Frustrating to copy and print photos with success. Almost nil instructions on this topic. Bought this printer because it could print 11x17 sheets albeit one at a time. For photos it is a nightmare.
Poorly designed, troublesome One of the most annoying printers I have ever had. Flimsy output tray dumps large print jobs on the floor, and is in the way of opening the paper tray. Paper tray has unnecessary cover. Getting frequent bogus "Out of paper" error messages. Does not play nicely with WIN 10
READ THIS - POOR, VERY POOR PERFORMANCE First off I have had this printer since April 15th 2021. I bought it as an open box printer - like new. It looked new. It came with everything. Problem 1. The ink cartridges were dried up and it would not print in color. I contacted the seller and told them the problem. They sent me an RMA to send it back instead of a few ink cartridges. Totally disappointed with Brother MFC-J5330DW I’ve owned this printer (Brother MFC-J5330DW) for just over a year now. I purchased this unit for personal use not a business. I would do maybe 10 prints a month. The ink consumption of this unit is terrible. I called the manufacture, they state that the in cartridges will only last 6 months even if you don’t use them due to the built in cleaning process. These cartridges are not cheap by no means. So awful and useless... cannot detect its own cartridges It refuses to print because it claims it cannot detect the yellow cartridge - which, by the way, is full. None of the tech support steps work, and it also refuses to print in black and white only. So I have to buy a new full one to replace the old full one? Print quality is always terrible as well. Will never buy from this company again.
Was not working properly when it arrived We returned it promptly for a refund, rather then mess around with something that may have been designed poorly or perhaps manufactured poorly. There was no point in spending time going back and forth when there are other options.

Terrible order I am very displeased with this order. First shame on me for opening the box on 5/21 vs when I received it. Secondly, this box included a receipt whereby the prior purchaser returned the box WITHOUT the starter ink cartridge and manual. The box and related content was not organized and now I need to separately purchase the ink to start the printer and to search online for a pdf of the owners manual.
