The Commodore has exceptional Art Deco ambiance. The food options are narrow and expensive. It is worth a trip for a special dinner, but I would recommend having a drink in the bar area. The staff is very warm and professional.
We were celebrating birthdays for two 85 year olds. The manager was extremely helpful in helping the two people with canes get in and out and be seated. The waitstaff were very attentive, suggested a great dish for one of the birthday girls that she loved, and added little candles to their deserts. All and all they helped create a very celebratory atmosphere!
Excellent service. Nice ambiance and nice to dine in a historic venue. Creative meals and yummy specialty drinks. We'd like to reinforce how nice it was to get smiling, warm, courteous service in a day where apparently it's "hip" to be rude. Many service workers have lost sight of the fact that most people dine out not because the food is great -- even though being a "foodie", we like to try different, tasty foods -- but to get away and enjoy themselves. Fantastic fun and a restaurant ambience that can not be beat if you are looking for something different with an historical bend to it! It makes you feel really special the minute you walk in the door. The bar is a most stop prior to dinner. I HIGHLY recommend the Fritzgerald!

The Commodore was immaculate. A beautiful little corner of St. Paul, the service was the best I have had in 2016. The Pork Schnitzel was perfect for a cold winter night. The historic motifs of its famous patrons such as F. Scott Fitzgerald makes it a must for when you have out of town guests.
The food was very good, as was the service. I was disappointed that the drink I ordered, I was later told they were "out" of. We were celebrating my birthday so I'm also surprised that there was no special treat offered to the table for that. Most places of this caliber do something for a celebration. Overall, I think the ambiance was great but it is incredibly loud so be prepared to not be able to talk across your table without nearly shouting.
