I tried this vet out on the recommendation of a couple friends. The office visit was great with everyone being really helpful, knowledgeable, etc but the problem came after we went home. The medication given to my dog was not working and he was still in a great deal of pain. It took 4 phone calls over almost 3 weeks before a vet would call me back about it. New medication was given, which also didn't work, at which point everyone there just threw up their hands and told me they couldn't help my dog. During that first visit... read more

They were fine when I brought my dog in for a checkup and the place is nice, but try talking to one of the techs or vets when you need help and can't bring your dog in. Really disappointing. As an update, I was able to talk to a Dr. Belknap at Sugarhouse Vet, he was very helpful and I will be seeing him tomorrow (Saturday).

We have taken our dog here for over 3 yrs. Bought the puppy package, taken her in for all check-ups, vaccinations, two teeth-cleanings, and bought all preventive meds. However, when we tried to get in for treatment of an ear infection, we were told that there were no more appointments available for that day; our choices were to go to urgent care or come in the following day. We chose to go to another vet who took us in right away. We won't be going back to University Vet.

I am deeply disappointed, saddened and frustrated by our last few experiences at UVH. My elderly dog (11.5 year old Lab/Pit mix) has been slowly losing mobility over the last year and has recently experienced a rapid decline. At the onset I called to make a quick appointment for assessment and after waiting for more than 5 minutes on hold I was told that the only way he was going to be seen was if I dropped him off in the morning for "observation", they would assess and treat ASAP and we should have more information and a t... read more

Business response:

Hi Kristie, I apologize that you feel like you weren't getting the answers you were looking for. Watching our pets age is very hard to do and can be such an emotional time as well. It can be very frustrating when they are diagnosed with aging changes and nerve issues that can only be managed by medications or physical therapy and not cured. I know you are looking for an official diagnosis, which is why we recommended to you an MRI, as this is the one diagnostic tool that would be able to give you more of a definitive answer.... read more

This is the review I wish I had read before taking our dogs to University Veterinary Hospital & Diagnostic Center. Long story short, I expect a vet to have an understanding of things in the area that could impact the health of pets - that did not happen here. There are many vets in the area, do better research than I did, get a recommendation from someone and it's always possible that you may have a different experience at this clinic than we did. After the experience here, we ended up settling on Animal Care Center that ... read more

Business response:

Hi Emily. I am sorry you feel you had a bad experience here. I tried to lookup your account but can't find you by only your first name. I will address your issues to the best of my ability, without being able to read your medical history, although I do hope you will call me direct to discuss in full. First we are very familiar with foxtails and see them regularly. We have even written a "Pets in the City" article specifically about them. Without reading your medical record I cannot comment on why it wasn't mentioned to... read more

Two things you need to take away from this review: Update: After reading this review Dr. Howard did call to apologize, saying he was angry at his secretaries for not giving me an estimation of costs before treatment... which wasn't really an excuse for his behavior. We all have bad days, but man, this guy's gotta work on treating people better. 1.Dr. Taylor Howard is jerk. Most people I've come in contact with here have been helpful and nice, but NOT Dr. Howard. 2. BEWARE of HIDDEN COSTS! ASK what EVERY little THING wi... read more

My boyfriend and I had just adopted a 2 year old cat from Best Friends Animal Society on 02/06/15. About 2 weeks before we adopted him he had surgery to remove a large string that was stuck in his intestines. At about 6pm on the same day we adopted him, the surgical seam reopened and went from starting at about .25 inch open to opening 2.5 inches. We were extremely worried the wound would keep opening up but we weren't sure if he needed emergency stitches that night or if we could wait until morning. (We are college students... read more

Vet services are very good. Fully impressed with the office staff and interactions with the Docs. Getting pet medications filled has become burdensome however. You cannot shop around to get the best prices, because the Docs will not approve any incoming Rx that doesn't come from its own website. U Vet Clinic was $144 compared to $107 from 1-800-PetMeds for the same meds. I've been using PetMeds for around 10 years and never had an Rx denied by a clinic. The U Vet Clinic says it has to do with product quality, but I'm hones... read more

First of all, this place costs so much more money than any other practices. Essentially you are paying for the cookies and Keurig machine and fireplace in the lobby, not quality care. It is so difficult to find ethical vets, cutting nails and checking their gums should come standard in a progress exam-- or any exam or follow up-- their 50 dollar baseline fee will not get you that (is there any exam associated with a 'progress exam???') regardless, this will NEVER be what you pay, they have charged me no less than $300 each... read more
