We just recently moved to the area and found University Vet on Yelp. Our first interaction with was just fine. Our dog had been feeling unwell. It took a week to get in, but we found a bacterial infection, got the meds, and we were back on our way to being a perky pet. However, our dog broke a molar on a Friday evening. AVOID THIS CLINIC! PREDATORY PRICING! This is a true ZERO star business. We tried this clinic for almost 2 years as we relocated to SLC. Unbelievably high prices and terrible customer service. Our last (and final) visit we had a terrible interaction with Dr. Howard. We asked to be contacted by management for a follow up on our bill. They have yet to respond, which has partially led to this review. Please support other vets in SLC.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. Most of the staff is wonderful. The technicians are great, and I've been very impressed with Dr. McIlvena and Dr. Zelnick. I even left this raving review a couple years ago: "Dr. Mcllvena was wonderful. Listened to my concerns about Tootsie with sincere empathy and had really good feedback about things I could try and how to move forward. I loved that she didn't just write Tootsie off for being old. Awful service. I waited 3wks to have my dogs seen only to have my appointment given to someone else because I didn't confirm my appointment? I made the appointment, there wasn't any changes to said appointment so why would I need to reconfirm again? Not to mention, this was a complete change in process that I was never made aware of. It's the same as a no call no show, but to your customers. I'd never do that to a service provider, bummer they don't demonstrate the same courtesy.

Nice facilities. Schedulers twice changed the appt time at the last minute; wait times are long: 2 hours for a rabies vaccine? That cost $89 but you can go down to the Humane Society and pay $16. Also, they recommended for my dogs who were having gastrointestinal issues Purina canned dog food. When I looked that food up it had multiple recalls!! Can't understand what that's about unless they have a deal with Purina. Very disappointing.

i would give this vet 0 stars if possible. i brought my dog after being hit by a car nearby and after over and hour of waiting to hear anything at all they came to tell me he was going to be okay and had me take him to the 24 hour vet in sugarhouse so he could be monitored for the night, as they aren't 24 hour. He died within 5 minutes of getting there. the vet there told me the other vet didn't realize how hurt he was. didn't realize huh. they still charged me for their services and offered zero aide. i would never recommen... read more

I tried this vet out on the recommendation of a couple friends. The office visit was great with everyone being really helpful, knowledgeable, etc but the problem came after we went home. The medication given to my dog was not working and he was still in a great deal of pain. It took 4 phone calls over almost 3 weeks before a vet would call me back about it. New medication was given, which also didn't work, at which point everyone there just threw up their hands and told me they couldn't help my dog. During that first visit... read more

They were fine when I brought my dog in for a checkup and the place is nice, but try talking to one of the techs or vets when you need help and can't bring your dog in. Really disappointing. As an update, I was able to talk to a Dr. Belknap at Sugarhouse Vet, he was very helpful and I will be seeing him tomorrow (Saturday).

We have taken our dog here for over 3 yrs. Bought the puppy package, taken her in for all check-ups, vaccinations, two teeth-cleanings, and bought all preventive meds. However, when we tried to get in for treatment of an ear infection, we were told that there were no more appointments available for that day; our choices were to go to urgent care or come in the following day. We chose to go to another vet who took us in right away. We won't be going back to University Vet.
