It's a scanner, but not a very good one I bought this scanner due to my old one from Neat no longer worked. When I went to get a replacement scanner I found out I had to upgrade the software, which was another nightmare. This scanner is compact and that is helpful given my small desk space. However, it constantly pulls the documents through crooked no matter how accurately you try to align before scanning. feeder is horrible. i love the size of it, very compact, perfect for small office space. but i have to say, the feeder mechanism is horrible. always get paper jam. you have to hold down the paper to make sure it goes straight or else it will go crook it. cant do more than 3 pages. also, always roll in two pages at the same time. it waste alot of my time. i have to do one sheet at a time.

BECAME TOTALLY USELESS AFTER A FEW WEEKS When I bought this printer, I absolutely loved it at first, despite a few flaws. The one thing I was originally unhappy with is the document feeder. It is only a tiny stub on each side of the sheet, and thus you have to hold onto the papers to ensure they go in straight and don't get jammed. However, for its other capabilities, it was worth it. Practically guaranteed issues! Way out of date- should support or stop selling. Have bought two of these. Wireless connectivity is the worst of any Wi-fi device I have ever owned. I have late model Netgear Nighthawks at home and commercial grade Cisco at work. Sitting next to the router it takes 20-45 seconds per page to transmit. HORRIBLE document feed mechanism... UPDATE: Returned. This scanner is just too much work! I was going to try the binder clip fix that another reviewer mentioned, but... well, that just seems hokey, even if it does work. I mean, this scanner isn't exactly cheap. It should just work. The Brother software on the disk will not work with Windows 10. The Brother software on the disk will not work with Windows 10. When the scanner did not initialize on its own I used the drivers and software disk that came with it. DON’T USE THE DISK WITH WINDOWS 10. It is not compatible. I could not believe a manufacture would include a disk that is not compatible with the latest Windows operating system, but that is why Windows 10 is not listed on the disk. Problem child needs spoon feeding. It has two half-inch paper guides at the mouth of the scanner slot and none at the top. So the rollers grab paper with the finesse of a lawn mower, the top of the paper gets thrown to the side, it keeps feeding the now-skewed paper till it crumples and tears one edge of it, and then it says, "Ahem, you're using paper that's too long [?]" It needs guides all along both paper edges, and improvised, clipped-on guides work only if you're very, very careful--and lucky.
