Belle Haven Animal Clinic is the best in the area. Yes, it may be somewhat pricier than other clinics in the area, but you also know that you are getting the best care for your pet. I got to know BHAMC well, as my cat was sick in her last year of life and needed extended treatment. Her medical bills that year were pretty significant and definitely higher than mine. My Vet is Dr Kamei, and she is outstanding. Top notch education and great bedside manor. She treats our Dachshund like a rock star, and goes out of her way to minimize costs.......even though she knows cost is not a factor to me. I have also seen three other vets when Dr Kamei was not available...two I liked, one I didn't....but overall the care is excellent and the staff responsive. Taking my dog here for a visit is a refreshingly streamlined process. We were in and out without much wait time. And, if your pooch only needs to get a vaccine, that is what the techs will do without having to bother with a full vet check-up. This is great because it will save you from unnecessary spending! I'm taking away a star from this review because I later called to see what it'd cost to have them trim my dog's nails since he refuses to let me do it. Their fee is $18! Yes! I finally found a vet in the area! I left Florida about two years ago and was so sad to leave the vet that I grew up taking our pets to and trusted fully. When I moved to the DC area, I took my cat to another clinic in the area, but when I moved to Alexandria, decided to change my vet as well since I wasn't overly impressed with the clinic. I am so glad that I chose Belle Haven. Like Charles M., my Coton is my child. His healthcare costs more than my own and I will not take chances. Dr. Donahue gets back to me faster than my own doctor would. I pay high prices for office visits, sure. A visit regarding a rash and antibiotic treatment costed about $80. However, I've called and left a message for Dr Donahue about various matters. Dr. Donahue gets back to me promptly and eliminates my need for an office visit. After moving to the area, I spent countless hours researching vets for my two cats. I finally settled on Belle Haven; I'm so glad I did! Dr. MacDonald is my vet; however, I have also seen Dr. Donohue. Both are great. One of my cats has had several health concerns (i.e. inflammatory bowel disease and fatty liver disease) and required quite a bit of procedures. I do not have children. I have a Westie. His name is Clifton and he means more to me than anything - seriously, anything. And I cannot imagine taking him anywhere but Dr. McDonald and BHAMC.

BHAMC is a great place to bring your pet. It has a beautiful office building, with a comfortable waiting room and coffee or tea available. The vets are friendly and knowledgable, and most importantly I never felt like they were "upselling" or suggesting treatments or procedures that weren't really needed. I'm sorry that I had to move away, I really enjoyed bringing Max to them, but I wanted to write this review in appreciation for their wonderful care.

I feel the quality of medical care is top notch, I just feel like its extremely expensive, so that every time I go in for a routine checkup, I face upwards of $100 per visit, not including the fact that my vet routinely tries to upsell me on expensive tests that clearly aren't needed.
