Terrible company.. they took my money for an appraisal - $550 and ordered the guy to come out and then they deny my mortgage for a completely different reason before it even gets to underwriting. Why would they order an appraisal and have it performed if they didn't even approve my mortgage to go forward? Then they refuse to give me back my money. Terrible. Stay away..

I tried to lock in a refinance rate on their website by paying the appraisal fee with a credit card, but their website froze. When it finally processed 15 minutes later, it said the rate was no longer available and offered me a higher rate. A 30 minute phone call to the company did not resolve anything. Complete scam.

The front half of my experience went very well. Right up until the day before closing where I received a phone call telling me that I’d have to pay an extra $2000 in closing costs. Up until the day of closing I had multiple documents in my Better.com portal with conflicting information on them. As friendly and streamlined as the process was on the front end, it totally fell apart on the back end. My advise is to stay away.

The Better.com people were very friendly to begin with. Our credit is great and our debt to income ratio is low. My wife and I each had a job change over the past three years--very typical in the service industry, and the job change was friendly, just necessary due to our move 2 years ago to a new location-- our new condo. Now here we're refinancing our condo with Better Mortgage and everything seemed fine, but one and a half months into the process underwriting decides our job history is "unstable". Bait and Switch They provided a quote and initial guidelines on how to lock in the rate on their website. The web portal had an issue from there side, but because of their over-reliance on bad technology and their lack of support or follow up, by the time they resolved the issue the rates were quoted at 1.5% higher and they refused to honor their price match guarantee. Very scammy business practices. Their goal is to get you to commit using a low rate, then jack up the rate using technology issues as an excuse.

I completed a mortgage refinance with Better.com, that was relatively quick and streamlined; however, once the refinance was completed, it has become clear that it is a gateway to problems. My mortgage was assigned to their business partner, *** ***** ****** (***), which not surprisingly sold my mortgage to another company (*** ******).
