We found that the Diner was overpriced. The food was tasty however. Our Server had a bit of an attitude and didn't go out of her way at all with customer service. This was our first stop in NYC and out of all the restaurants we visited over 7 days, was our least favorite and the only one where the server was not good.
I am usually not this harsh when reviewing a restaurant but this one crossed the line. After waiting over an hour for our food, a "hotdog" arrived that was unappealing to my father because it was grossly larger than the bun. We polugsly asked for a smaller hot dog or a larger bun but were met with sarcastic jokes and rudeness from not only our waiter but also the restaurant manager. Eventually they brought out a piece of shortbread cut like a hotdog bun to try and appieze us, after laughing at us, at our own expense, and tel... read more
1 - Several items on menu were not available. We had both decided on menu items (Pastrami sandwich + stuffed trout) but were told when we ordered them they were not available. Pastrami not being available in a deli is unbelievable! 2. Substitute food was not good quality - chicken dish was very dry. 3. Waiter: (a) did not advise us when we were seated of menu items not available and (b) never returned to the table to ask how our food was. 4. Manager: came back to ask about our satisfaction with food and we expressed our disp... read more
After being seated by the Hostess a few minutes later the manager came over and asked my wife and I to get up from the booth in a rude way. I have never had such an unpleasant experience in all of my years of eating out.
We went for their World Famous Pancakes but when we arrived at 12 noon, we were told we couldn't order pancakes - breakfast was over. So we ordered lunch which was just okay. Definitely not worth the prices that they charge. I wouldn't go back!
I HAVE ENJOYED THE BROOKLYN DINER IN BOTH OF ITS LOCATIONS FOR YEARS .BUT ON A RECENT VISIT WITH FRIENDS FOR A PRE-THEATRE LUNCH AT NOON WE GOT QUITE A SURPRISE. ALMOST HALF OF OUR FOOD WAS UNAVAILABLE .THE WORST WAS THAT THE WAIT STAFF WEREN'T INFORMED OF THIS. IT STARTED WHEN THERE WAS NO POT ROAST , AND THE BASHFUL WAITRESS WAS FULL OF APOLOGIES STATING THAT THEY WERE "OUT OF" SEVERAL ITEMS. , THEN KUGEL WAS REPLACED WITH MASHED POTATOES , WITH NO EXPLANATION , NO COLE SLAW , DESSERT CONTINUED THE SHORTAGES . WE WERE INFO... read more
I used to frequent this restaurant alot a few years back but the quality of food has definitely changed and not for the better. My turkey sandwich was super dry. My boyfriend's pastrami was just as dry, you could break it apart with a snap. The french fries that comes with the sandwiches were so salty, honestly we couldn't even eat them. The topper was the tomatoes on my turkey sandwich still had the produce sticker on them!! THis definitely means they weren't washed tomatoes. We brought it to the waiters attention, who by t... read more
Food was disappointing. Pastrami was thick cut and not very lean, fries were cold and meal took a bit long to be served. One diner sent the food back and ordered something else. Staff was courteous and attentive, but overall, food was very disappointing, especially at the prices the charged.
Too crowded, too noisy and way too expensive for the food served. I had reservations but they seated on a first come, fist serve basis anyway. Typical tourist trap.
