I started using this storage facility four years ago. Recently I received a notice that my rent would be increased. The amount of this recent increase effectively more than doubled the amount of rent that I was paying four years ago. Extra Space Storage is not in the business of offering a service. It's in the business of taking advantage of and making large amounts of money off people who are often underprivileged and are stuck with no other place to keep their stuff. I have a small 2x2 until that was supposed to be discounted at $18 online. They force you to have insurance $14. Then the one time fee of $24. So I'm paying $56 the first month and $32 all the other months. Just put the full price online guys that's ridiculous. But wait there's more. If you choose to get your first month free you don't even get the discounted until you pay full price. You guys need to specify that online. Stop being. Sneaky and just be truthful with your customers for fucks sake.

When I first moved into the neighborhood I honestly thought it was an abandoned building! The building itself is absolutely disgusting and is obviously never pressure washed. How do you not pressure wash your building? The surrounding area is just as disgusting and extremely disrespectful to the neighborhood and their customers. They had one person working the office. I had a 6pm appointment and have yet to be seen. It's 6:30pm and this is delaying the rest of my appointments for the day. They need a better system or process.

My camper trailer was stolen from their storage with coded access and cameras; one pointed at my trailer. I had a ball hitch lock and wheel lock on the trailer that the employees had access to. After several months they have agreed to pay back over payment but they have/had no responsibility for the theft of my trailer. Basically they told me that I was at fault for trusting them with anything of value. They do not even call the police when they get robbed; they wait awhile and call you and tell you to do it. This place sucks its dirty, opens late, and has 2 rude employees. Mike and Kayla are the best. The other 2 suck. (Jim and Lita) I am writing this at 9:05 am... while waiting for the place to open.... Hours are SUPPOSED to be 8 to 4

***Disclaimer: Horror story!*** I used Extra Space storage two times in five years. First time I needed the space for 3 months to re-organize my apartment. That worked well. When I left, they asked if I would ever use the service again, and I said yes. Big mistake! The place is basically a half-way point for the homeless from wherever they shower and wherever they live. Update: Moved out since they've increased my rent 50% in the past 2 years; I got yet another rent increase notification so I left. Overall they're much more aggressive about this than other storage companies I've used. Also, recall that when I arrived they did not have the space that I had reserved, and they force-upsold me to a more expensive unit.
