Extra doubled our rate a few months after we arrived and then after our complaint, changed it to a 50% increase. That was not what we were promised. The local person said it was a corporate tactic. Local people are impersonal, but helpful if you can get a hold of them.

Before I've even moved anything into my unit they're trying to run some sort of game on me, saying I have to move into another unit, with a deadline after which they are free to charge me an extra month, I'm to sign A CONTRACT to this effect. One of the contracts upon signing up - which was BIZARRE, the amount of legalese and bs - was to sign off on being able to sue them. One supposes they expect to be sued. I stopped by Extra Storage to throw some boxes into my unit today a few minutes after 7PM. I pulled in and parked and no one was around, just a couple people that were leaving. I literally unloaded my entire car which took about 10-15 minutes and just as I was about to go upstairs, the lady, Jamaica, came out and was like "We're closed". Staff is nice, but buyer beware. None of the units are the size they list. Their "estimated" sizes that "may not be the actual" size as stated in their contract - you can be sure each dimension is at least a foot to 3 feet smaller. We got there to fill an 8x8 and found it 6x7 (and partly taken up by a pillar) so there would not be enough room for our king size bed frame that measures over 7 feet as we had planned for. A very unhelpful and dishonest business. After I completely moved in they informed me that they would need to add an expensive insurance plan to my monthly bill. Their office people are often unhelpful and rude as well. If I could do it again I'd choose one of the many better reviewed options, these people have the worst reviews for a reason.

I have been renting with Extra Space for going on three years. I have recently been delivered an incentive to vacate the premises. This company took the liberty of raising my rent this March, 2020, from $185.00 to a whopping $245.20 stating that this increase was a standard increase in the market rates. I started using this storage facility four years ago. Recently I received a notice that my rent would be increased. The amount of this recent increase effectively more than doubled the amount of rent that I was paying four years ago. Extra Space Storage is not in the business of offering a service. It's in the business of taking advantage of and making large amounts of money off people who are often underprivileged and are stuck with no other place to keep their stuff. I have a small 2x2 until that was supposed to be discounted at $18 online. They force you to have insurance $14. Then the one time fee of $24. So I'm paying $56 the first month and $32 all the other months. Just put the full price online guys that's ridiculous. But wait there's more. If you choose to get your first month free you don't even get the discounted until you pay full price. You guys need to specify that online. Stop being. Sneaky and just be truthful with your customers for fucks sake.
