Don't go here!! Horrible hours( who closes at 5 on a weekday?), a really inconvenient location. Expensive rates with hidden fees and penalties, inept staff. Especially the Latina lady behind the counter. They don't have a service elevator, so when you actually have to move things in and out you fight with this elevator that closes the door on you every 30 seconds and makes a horrible screeching noise to let you know. You would think that a huge storage place would have a freight elevator? Oh, and they have locked dumpsters.... read more

Worst experience ever! Incompetent staff. It took longer to sign the contract then it did to move all of my stuff!! Don't go here. If I had time, I'd move my stuff out to another storage facility!

I'll start by saying that they really don't care about these reviews because some of these issues are ongoing despite seeing reviews about them dated from last year. I recently moved my stuff from the brand new (and better reviewed) ES storage out in what they call Hunters point but which is just a wee bit east of the Mission near the 101 freeway entrance. I went to their website and locked a 4 x 4 unit that, according to the website, it was a web special priced at $57 a month with the first month half-off. I got a confirmation email from Extra Storage stating that my only payment upon showing up at the office should be of $38. What is my surprise when I show up at the facility on Folsom Street, I'm being charged $58 and according to the manager named Ed Salazar those $20 extra where admin fees that were not listed on the website. ExtraSpace is the WORST -- save yourself having to deal with their dishonesty and disorganization and go somewhere else. I've had two separate terrible experiences with them, and am sorry I did not learn from my first mistake. The first clue should be that their website only gives the length and width of the unit, not the height. Here is a company that rents out three dimensional space, but only tells you two dimensions. Overall, really not a good place to store your stuff. I thought I locked in a low rate with them but ended up wasting almost $300. Here's why: I recently moved to graduate school in Santa Barbara with the intent on driving back to get my stuff a week after orientation started. I called in advance to make sure they were open; I should've known that the lack of responsiveness would cost me $300. Bait and Switch - Don't fall for it! You've seen the "Buy now and get one month free" ads online - don't fall for it. I rented a space online and they showed me a space that had a 5ft roof - good luck getting 2 boxes stored on top of one another. I was told it was a ground floor - when I got there it was a 4th floor. After my apartment flooding debacle, I booked a storage unit sight unseen at pretty much the first storage place to come up in a Google search. The price was fairly reasonable for an 8x10 and they were having a 50% off first month special which was perfect since I only planned to be there 1 month. I secured the rental from Seattle before the move. Then, when I showed up, the guy said he no longer has a room of the size I needed. He offers to show me another room of smaller proportions and then goes on to tell me the $1 move in deal no longer applies because the room is a different size. How is this not illegal? If I were you, I would not go here. It is a scam. I ended up calling another one and they were very nice and did indeed honor their price.
