Completely unusable. As soon as it was plugged in, it was stuck in what appears to be a software bug where you can't exit maintenance mode. Of course Brother's manual and website offer no help. Complete waste of money.
Printing OK but scanning terrible The printing is slow but seems to work ok. But scanning images is terrible. I've tried different software (including the Brother software). I've tried cleaning the screen (although it's brand new). I've tried everything I could think of, but the image quality is just terrible. I'm going to have to purchase a separate scanner for pictures. I get better images by taking a picture of the picture with my phone. If you want something to scan images with, don't buy this printer.
Beginner printer. 10/16/2019 Had Brother Printers before and always had good results. Was going back to Brother from my HP which I have used for the last four years without even a paper jam. Wanted to get cheaper ink with the Brother. Had hard time installing the soft work and when I got it to print it took over 30 seconds to print 1 page with above noise level. you get what you pay for, pay for something else this printer doesn't work well and printing two-sided is impossible without wasting paper/ink. spend your money elsewhere
Low Print Quality The colors do not turn out correct with this printer. It also does not use up the ink in the cartridge completely. I print color every couple weeks and black and white weekly, and I am replacing ink every month. I would not recommend this product.
Useless A shame I have to give it even 1 star. Useless...can't get the printer to acknowledge that there is ink loaded- no matter how many times I reload the cartridges (over and over, step by step) at the end it just says "reload .." In other words it is just a big black space taker on my desk. As I say, useless. At least if I go to a local store to buy one, I can take the thing back, and have the clerk- on the spot- fix or replace.

DO NOT BUY BROTHER's PRODUCT You wont be able to print black & white, when the other colors are empty.
Will not scan if ANY ink is "empty" refuses to scan to computer file if ANY of the ink cartages are empty
