Won't print black and white when color ink is low Unplugged the printer and when I plugged it back in it said all the colored ink was low and refused to print even though there was no previous indication that the ink was low and I was trying to print in black and white. Why can't I print black and white if the color ink is low?!?!?!!!!?? Took many tries to get the printer to acknowledge that the cartridges did have ink.
After a couple years....it just stops reading ink levels I've had this printer for about 2 years and this week it stopped reading the printer ink level in the three colored inks. Without the ability to read the levels, it just stops printing. In order to try to fix the problem, I purchased new BROTHER ink (which is VERY EXPENSIVE) and put it in the printer hoping the new ink would register. Nope. It did not. Bad color print quality over time I'm revising my review after replacing all ink cartridges. Originally I complained that I could never get high quality photo prints -- they always had think blank lines across the image. I tried cleaning the heads, which made things better (at least to some acceptable quality where the image was recognizable) but never a clean image. Bad color print quality I've had the printer for two years, and have never really been able to get it to print decent color prints. There are always some amount of infinitesimal (but still visible) lines across a printed picture. God forbid you don't color print something for a few months, then the printer barely works and you'll need to run through a few cycles of head cleaning before getting back to some decent level of baseline printing. Constantly Clogged This printer isn't for people who print infrequently. If I wait a week in between printing the nozzles clog and I have to run it through the clean cycle, sometimes multiple times, before I can get a quality printout. I've wasted far more ink and paper trying to keep this thing printing correctly than any other printer I've owned. Does not last We have had this printer in our business since 09-28-2018 the touch screen stopped working after about 6 months which was no big deal as we could get by without that. But then the computer didn't even recognize the printer. I even went as far as uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Still didn't work. Spending this much money you would think it would last longer then it did.
Great printer if you never have a paper jam. I bought the printer for very light home use, 50 pages a month on average. I purchased this model because I had previously bought the same one for my wife. I caused a paper jam because I had an object blocking the paper output. I was printing in grayscale on the fast setting. I followed the manual's directions to remove the jam.
